    I took Spanish in high school but I'd like to brush up on it and be able to carry on a conversation with people. Any recommendations on teachers/classes/tutors who are good at working with people who may already have a basic knowledge but aren't fluent?

    Uh... por favor? Eh it was worth a shot. I guess I could just go to Mexico and burn my passport where I'll be forced to learn in order to survive.

    Sure. I can teach you. :eek: For now, here's your homework: watch Telemundo. Turn on CC3.

    Sure. That works, too, but you won't learn a lot of conversational methods, mannerisms, idioms, etc.

    You know what? I might be mistaken about the CC3. I'll check tonight. The more "proper" Spanish, to speak better with Mexicans and Latinoamericanos alike is better on Univisión and Unimás. Stay away from slang and lower-class TV like Estrella TV. TV Azteca is decent.

    I think I might put together a course online. :eek: Is there anywhere I can do that?

    EDIT: http://www.openculture.com/freelanguagelessons

    Check out www.duolingo.com, I've heard some good stuff about the website and they even offer apps for android and iOS. I've been meaning to dive into it but haven't had much time... let us know how it goes.

    I'm doing this on my phone. I'm on unit one and it's pretty cool. Here's the partial conjugation for drink:

    Yo bebo
    Tu bebes
    Ella bebe
    Nosotros bebemos

    I can do that for 'to eat' as well.

    Also, watch the first season of Community. I learnt some vocabulary from there and the rap in episode 2:

    arana = spider
    muneca = doll
    bigote = mustache
    perro = dog
    manteca = fat
    cabeza = head
    nieve = snow
    Jeffe = Jeff

    Not bad, srrm, but please don't forget the "ñ" and the accents. It's imperative to learn where those go. :cool:

    I definitely second Duolingo, but you will never get the same benefits of learning conversational Spanish fluently without a formal class. There's only so much you can do, bookwork wise, the real hammering in comes from human conversation.

    you need to spend time living in a spanish speaking place.

    I worked in Guadalajara Mexico where I had no choice but to speak spanish. Not many english speakers there at all
