svchost.exe and alertsvc.exe

    Does anyone know what would cause svchost.exe and alertsvc.exe to consume 100% of the CPU (in W2K)?

    Are you running WinGate or some similar proxy software?

    I believe alertsvc.exe is a Norton Antivirus file, by the way.
