What to do in Galveston?

Pleasure Pier, the spot, moody gardens, seawall, look at dirty water. miniature golf.

Nothing worth staying the night over. I'd say you could knock out moody gardens in 3 and pleasure pier in 3. finish off eating at the spot. 8 hours more or less Id say.

 

+1 for The Spot.

I'd do the bike ride down the sea wall too.

 

You could always take a romantic walk down the beach and pick up seaweed.

 

Or garbage.

 

The best thing to do in Galveston is to leave Galveston.

 

There is Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn on the weekends if the weather is nice enough, Pleasure Pier


Shearns is a nice restraunt in the hotel at Moody Gardens. The Spot is good too if you want burgers and something cheaper to eat. There are some more suggestions on Galveston's website:

Not true. I camp quite often at the state park and it's always been a great time.

 

I hear ya...I used to practically live on the beach down there in high school (early 90's). Always had a blast and watching girls in bikinis never gets old. But you have to admit that the city of Galveston has gone downhill significantly over the last few years. I feel like you have to get out before it gets dark now for fear of your safety.

 

If you want a great breakfast burrito go to Donut Shoppe (Bronco Burrito)...its galvestons little secret hole in the wall with great food...they are only opened till 12 though...

 

I havent been in years either and will be down there starting tmr. Staying at a house in Freeport. Curious how it's changed over time and due to storms

Another vote for Moody Garden. Just got back from my son's field trip. It was OK but don't plan on eating there.

 

I say stay at least one night at the San Luis. That would be your base of operations in Galveston.

 

Last time I was at Moody Gardens it was MISERABLE. Too many of my people and Swoly D's people (but more so Swoly D's people ). Too many screaming kids. I will never go back there again.

 

The real hidden gem in Galveston is the Strand area. Lots of restaurants, stores and open bars. Usually live bands on the weekend and it's legal to drink a beer while you're walking down the street.

So hit the Seawall and maybe the Spot for an early lunch and to look at the water, then go to the Strand. I haven't been to the Spot in years, but they used to have much cheaper food as 'appetizers' if you ordered from the bar.

 

Gotta hit up the strand. There's an old-time confectionery there that you can visit to get some good ice cream, kinda like stepping into a time machine.

 

There is a really good restaurant there. It's called Brickhouse Tavern and Tap. I really the set up there and the food is pretty good too. It's right off the sea wall pretty close to pleasure pier.

 

Hit the Seawall, hang a right, go about 15 miles until you leave the county. Park on the beach and shoot guns into the ocean and get ****faced.

 

The city of Galveston has improved immensely since Hurricane Ike. An assload of investment there right now. Seriously.
