Anyone else get annoyed by this? Promotheus, Elysium, Mount Olympus Has Fallen, etc. I see the names and I'm thinking "hell yeah, titans vs zeus and his boys, epiiiiiiiiiiiic" and...I get some stupid political thriller.

No, I don't think anyone else is annoyed by that. I don't think anyone else wants there to be multiple movies like Clash of the Titans.

science fiction in general has always borrowed from other languages and ancient cultures to sound futuristic yet familiar.

    James Tiberius Kirk
    Romulans are from Romulus
Demetrius - Ship in Battlestar Gallactica
Pegasus - Ship in Battlestar Gallactica
Apollo - character in Battlestar Gallactica
The Gods in the 2000's Battlestar Gallactica
Paul and the Sandworm in Dune was taken from the story of Apollo and the Monstrous Python
The writer of The Hunger games stated that the book was based on Greek mythology and Roman Gladiator games

It is slightly annoying but that's more with Hollywood's lack of imagination. It worked for someone so they will continue doing it.

Prometheus actually annoyed me. I geniuinely thought it would be a nice film focusing on man's first interaction with fire and the Greek god's interaction, but it turned out a tiny bit different.....

Considering that many of our governmental/political words are from Greek origin, no, I don't get annoyed. Here's a partial list:

Academy, anarchy, aristocracy, catholic, democracy, economy, hegemony, history, hubris, idiot, metropolis, monarch, oligarchy, politics, thespian, tyrant.

Why would I be annoyed? You find a great title you use it and most Greek name there are great meaning and symbolic behind them and they also sound cool.

This is a silly thing for people to get all worked up about. Sure, some of those names are a bit lame, but so what? If it really bothers you, then don't see the movie.
