    Assuming that we can learn something useful about our current situation from the downfall of the Roman Empire, the Roman Empire fell for whatever reason that best supports my pre-conceived notions of what is wrong with this country. Show me proof that it doesn't.

    It fell because Nickelback was popular and the Empire was weakened by crappy crappy lowest common denominator overhyped music.

    It became too big to rule for such a primitive civilization. Communication was sluggish and local leaders pretty much had de facto rule. It's the reason the empire was split.
