That's a great point and many of the Chinese of those generations also suffered endemic poverty due to racism. The thing that Asians and others need to remember is that prior to the 1960's we were also considered colored. If not for the efforts of the Civil Rights movement, largely led by Blacks, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to even be called a model minority.
America doesn't care about racism unless it's about African Americans or the Jewish community. In fact, if I had just typed "blacks and jews" instead of those terms, someone would probably flip out too.
That's not exactly groundbreaking research - whoever has hiring control tends to favor people like themselves. Somehow it's news when white people do it? Sometimes it works the opposite way though when affirmative action-type policies are in place.
