My wife has their CD. That had to be one of the greatest/worst lip-syncing performances E-VAR! And HOLY CRAP...was Ozzy hitting the pipe mid-performance? Good lord he looked out of his mind.
QUESTION: If the best new artist award . . . .was about the music. And the music of Milli Vanilli was good enough to win the award. Why did the award NOT go to the guys that did the actual singing? Rocket River This is when I started realizing how plastic this industry was how actual talent was . . really not that important This was after the Marsh Walsh incident as well.
A big influence to a generation of kids born around that time and after. And I'm only kind of kidding.
i see your milli vanilli and raise you a bizzy bone i looked for a clip where they all were lip syncing but i couldnt find one, i had a friend who went to their concert at the summit and told me they lipped their songs, i was in complete disbelief, i seen them perform on one of the vh1 hip hop honors show and couldnt believe what i was seeing, although this clip is from soul train <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/3EI5ZMS5Bi4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It's amazing how much heat they got back then for lip-syncing, but these days, everyone does it and no one complains.
The only reason that's not being done now (that we know of......) is because with today's studio technology, you don't really need to. Anyone can "sing". Hello auto-tune.
Nearly EVERY ARTIST/SINGER uses Auto-Tune or a plugin of the sort to an extent. It's been around for years, far before T-Pain. And has been giving singers 'perfect-pitch' for a long long time.
So the reason the market is flooded with 1000 cd's a week and no one but the corporate supported super-acts can break out is that you don't really need any talent to be pretty good anymore. Just any kid with a macair and protools has an average level cd in him. or Every kid with talent now as a chance to make his record. They don't need and AR advance man scouring the clubs, expensive studio time and producer or payola promotions for radio air play. I'm a geezer but I think I heard more better music when it was harder. Everything seems to get lost in a sea of mediocrity now. There isn't a weeding out, a judging by people with real qualified credentials. (or is 5 million people viewing on youtube a more egalitarian way?)
I know what the plugin is for. It's for SMALL corrections and I've even used it for some clients but the blaitant use of it and the God awful ovbious use of it ala T-Pain is what I'm talking about.
I believe this to be true. Those that are truly talented will shine regardless, and those that aren't will fade with time.
Gotcha. That genre has its purpose and target audience. And if given the opportunity, I would record and produce it to reap the financial gain.
