Supposed to be a prequel but it sure does feel a lot like a remake of the original film. Original is one of my favorite horror films so I'm sure I'll see this regardless.

Prequel deals with the Norwegian camp shown in the first film (like we don't know how that turned out)...three days before the Kurt Russell camp was invaded. Could be okay but is that story really necessary to be told? We know the plot already pretty much. Sure, fill in the gaps of what happened at the Norwegian camp but the general outline of the story is already there.

They should do something with "Jaws" next. I know the original is a classic that is supposedly untouchable...but studios don't give a damn. They are in it to make money utilizing ideas from titles already made.

I knew it was supposed to cover the Norwegian camp but I really didn't expect them to borrow as many ques from the original, at least put some new spins on what happen, other wise it's just pointless, like you said.

I don't see what is wrong with simply rebooting it as the John Carpenter 'Thing' was already a remake.

Yeh, this is a remake of the remake. Which was a good remake.

The true original was good, too.

I have to agree, I've see the original film and read the short story they are all based on, Carpenter's film is still the best. Like I said, I'll still watch but I'm just afraid they are going to do a retread.

One of the "things" that made The Thing such a frightening and powerful film was the all male cast. It's a pity that the producers of this prequel either don't understand that or do understand that, but simply don't care.

What's wrong with these idiot directors or producers? If you're going to do a prequel, remake at least be a bit original. This is exact rip off of Carpenter classic The Thing. The trailer was just terrible.

The ending of Carpenter's THE THING is classic
It is one of the best movies he made.

This remake is going to blow, suck and swallow!

Trailer does indeed suck. The reason they are making this is not just for guys like us who love the original but for the entirely new generation who have not even scene Carpenter's epic.

Remember that movie came out a while ago.

the problem i have with all these reboots and remakes...besides the fact that they are usually unoriginal (except for a few like "Star Trek")...is how the characters are usually uninteresting, there is no character depth, and noone cares about the characters when watching the film. they usually don't flush them out well. if the audience doesn't care about the characters because they seem shallow on film, then who cares about the rest of the movie?

there is just something about how films were made a few decades ago that has been left by the wayside in a lot of these new films. they reboot/remake these films to bring them up-to-date...but somewhere along the way character development and developing interesting characters that the audience can identify with and care about went out the window. then, they usually try to apply small improvements or twists to the original that don't really make up for the lack of character development at all.

the reboot/remake may look newer and seem current...but that is not enough. there is a list of films that should have never been re-made. Most of the horror films fit in this category. They never improve on the original. They turn it into newer generation dribble for dumb people imo. i'm not sure if they are trying to tell us something about the kids growing up these days or what?

if you are going to prequel, reboot, or remake a film, then at least try to do it justice and make the audience feel something while having to think versus just watching more current themed plotlines with better special effects. there is no replay value to such dribble...if you immediately walk out of a film and it's not even worth discussing.

    sorry for stating the obvious.

I watched the Carpenter The Thing the other day...this is certainly a prequel, which I'm happy about.

    Anyway, red-band trailer:

I knew it was a prequel but a lot of the set pieces seemed like redux of scenes from the original. Saw this redband trailer earlier this week, too much CGI for my test.
