because the unknown commodity has more potential upside than Lee. Why do people gamble at a Casino if they have money in the bank?
I hope we're getting something in return. Offering 14 + 23 sounds plenty already for a lowly #10 pick
As the report reads, I don't like it - but there could be a lot missing. Frankly, IMO, Lee >> #10 pick. There's tons of volatility in this draft, and it is very difficult to know who will be on the board at that point in any year. Beyond that, I don't see anyone that is for sure better than Lee, especially that far back. Is this trade really part of something bigger - packaging the #10 and #14 for a bigger prize? Is Bogut or Ilyasova part of the deal? Are we trying to land the #10 and #8 separately? Love the Morey is burning up the phone lines. Just hope that he finally makes contact on a fastball and doesn't foul off another T-Will or Thabeet trade.
http://sprungonsports.com/2011/06/23/nba-draft-trade-rumors-62311-draft-day/ offered Lee and 23rd for the number 10 pick
The quote I have always heard from the media "experts" is that the Rockets value their own players more highly than other teams. Which would suggest that even though Morey is reportedly very "active" or "aggressive", he is making a lot of low ball offers, seeing if anyone will bite. The Milwaukee writer said on the radio yesterday that he had not heard that Patterson was offered, just that he suspected that could be a name in the mix because the Bucks liked him. Patterson may have been offered in a package to get to #2, but I highly doubt he was ever offered to Milwaukee, unless Bogut was in the package.
For those debating whether Lee is more valuable than the 10th pick, ask yourself if you'd rather have Lee than Klay Thompson or Alec Burks. For a team that wants more stability and to push forward in the next 2 years, it's Lee. For a team that is lacking talent and needs an upgrade and willing to take a risk, it's Thompson or Burks. I'm not saying that's who the rockets want. It's an example of value. For the record, I think the Rockets are aiming higher and want to parlay 10 and 14 to push up to get Valancius. Even if he's available at 8 and we only need to move up two spots, I think we do it.
I would. Lee already is what those two might be if they pan out. Now if it is about getting the #10 in order to flip it with the #14 for a big...that I'd be good with. If we angle for a wing, he'd better be a clear cut starter at 3 ahead of chase. There's no point in swapping role playing bench wings for different role playing bench wings. If we're dice rolling, dice roll on a 7 footer.
Guys remember, Courtney Lee doesn't have but one or two years of team control left. He may be an unrestricted FA in the current CBA and more than likely in a new CBA as well. So you're essentially trading 1 year of Courtney Lee, before he gets to test free agency for 4-5 years of a rookie with greater potential to grow. Courtney Lee is probably barely worth a late first rounder, even in a weak draft. Thats even a stretch because late firsts are pretty valuable because of the minimal cost in terms of salary on a 1st round rookie contract (4 years and a restricted 5th year)
I think Leonard, Thompson, Biyombo, Singleton, Motiejunas are the 5 main targets. The over all goal is to get defensive and to get a wing and big man. Thats just how i feel about it.
I bet David Kahn will be hard pressed to take a deal of the tenth and fourteenth overall picks and Jordan Hill for the second overall pick.
I don't like giving up Lee for the the 10th pick.. Lee is a proven defender and shooter I wouldn't mind sending Hill and the 14th, I assume that would be a fair deal
