Who the hell are they starting at center? Burke? Are you kidding? I thought I would surely know every starter in the league this year, but it didn't take very long to prove me wrong. Why the Magic trade Brendan Haywood last season is one of the great mysteries of the world.
I don't know a lot about Burke, but I saw him and the preseason and he has a great shot for a big man.
They traded Haywood to clear salary for future pursuits. So far, he hasn't done *that* much in Washington. They really like Burke, too. He's only 6-10, but he can shoot the ball well, and any big man who can shoot and at least attempt to rebound for the Magic is a welcome addition.
Well, the Magic have been trying to get a decent center for years. Haywood hasn't been spectacular by no means yet, but he is LONG and has only played 62 NBA games so far. He's not going to be an offensive force, but that's not what the Magic need. He got 5 rebs and 1.5 blocks in only 20 minutes per game last season. Besides, it's not like they managed to find a better center through free agency or anything. They'll be kicking themselves in a few years, if they aren't already. Anyways, good luck this season. Hopefully Hill can stay healthy.
I had not heard of him, either - 'til the 'O' played the Rox...he's active, reminds me some of Chris Gatling, and that's not bad. (Not great, mind you, but not bad, either.)
I doubt the Magic are kicking themselves, because Haywood never showed the work ethic or intensity to even get off the bench in training camp for the Magic last year, yet alone potentially see significant time. He may have size, but that means little in terms of quality. I personally think Haywood is overhyped, something that will be shown with additional minutes. Burke seems to be doing well so far, and Kemp is *slowly* coming along. Plus, keeping Haywood last year likely would've meant ditching Garrity this year, something the team wasn't prepared to do even at the potential cost of a significant free agent next year.
brendon haywood reminds me soooo much of vin baker: all the talent and physical gifts in the word, but lacks the individual mental capability to drive himself to greatness. that said, i think brendon found that drive in washington...specifically in michael jordan.
ALL I know after watchin the Magic last night is I need to recheck their cap position. Hill looked VERY good; McGrady is McGrady. I am absolutely a Spurs homer, but no matter how good their moves (and Euro second rounders) turn out to be; it don't equal : Hill (the one I saw last night) + McGrady + Duncan. As much of a nightmare as that would be as a Spurs fan; that would be something to see. IN THE EAST. 70 what, 75 wins. Just to shut Laker fan up....nevermind. Parker's better than Kidd, Manu is the savior, Kandi is coming and will be great....ahh that's better.
