I want to know how I can calculate it myself so I don't get ripped off on unnecessary extra fees. I don't trust car salesmen.
Tax = 6.25% on the purchase price TTL all-in is usually an extra 6.5% on top of the purchase price. Purchase price = $25,000 then TTL should be around $25,000 x 1.065 = $26,625
As an aside, I recently bought a new car, and absolutely humiliated the finance manager. I went to the dealership armed with my financial calculator, and through my hardball negotiating tactics, purchased a vehicle for $2,600 less than what was on the sticker (the car already had a discount included as well). I think the dude went home and cried.
Actually, I think the Title charge is\was like $50, and the License depends on the county (which is, what, $60 for Harris County) you're in. Trader_Jorge is right about the Tax rate.
Big deal, rookie. I went without a calculator and got my new car $3,000 under sticker with .9% financing. If you want my help next time, let me know.
Well I'll be darned. I guess the sales manager at the Kia dealership was in a good mood for you that day.
Thanks for the help yall. I can't help but feel I'm getting screwed. Fortunately I'm dealing with internet sales guys at this point. One guy said the car (Honda Pilot) is so popular it would make no sense for him to give a discount. I don't know what to do. I'm thinking about quitting. I don't need it, and I'm not going to jeopardize my future with it.
BAD GRAMMAR. You should have used the word "were" instead of "was", because you were speaking in the hypothetical. The subjunctive tense is necessary. Sigh
You are the rookie if you didn't take a financial calculator with you. No one that has a clue what they are doing buying a car shows up without it. Had you taken it, you might have gotten that car for another $1000 less.
