I'll always give Detroit props for this...but that commercial came off as overt pandering for sympathy. Eminem in it made me roll my eyes. I get it's a commercial, but I bought into it as much as a lame romcom movie.

    The Groupon folks are idiots:

The gist of the concept is this: When groups of people act together to do something, it’s usually to help a cause. With Groupon, people act together to help themselves by getting great deals. So what if we did a parody of a celebrity-narrated, PSA-style commercial that you think is about some noble cause (such as “Save the Whales”), but then it’s revealed to actually be a passionate call to action to help yourself (as in “Save the Money”)?

Since we grew out of a collective action and philanthropy site (ThePoint.com) and ended up selling coupons, we loved the idea of poking fun at ourselves by talking about discounts as a noble cause. So we bought the spots, hired mockumentary expert Christopher Guest to direct them, enlisted some celebrity faux-philanthropists, and plopped down three Groupon ads before, during, and after the biggest American football game in the world.

Who in the holy hell thought this was a good idea?

"lol tragedy/oppression" is not a marketing campaign... morons.

yes, everybody from Detroit is horrible and should die

Seriously...I don't think the commercial perpetuated any of the myths you mentioned. Unless I missed the part where they touted Detroit's aesthetics and it's high performance on standardized testing.

Granted the commercial did nothing to make me want to buy a Chrysler, but I can say that about every commercial I've ever seen.

This one cracked me up. I wasn't paying much attention until after he loads the giant sandwich in the back and I realized that it looked really dirty. We rewound it a few times and the split second after the sandwich it is obviously dirty. The 'Cram Cam' and the gameshow guy saying "Whoa!"

    Caught me by surprise.

Anyone else see a problem with bailout recipient Chevrolet having 6 commercials during the game? Especially when they aren't exactly known for advertising during the Superbowl?

To all who enjoyed the Darth Vader commercial, I give you the outtakes. I wish they'd kept in the last one though.
