I don't see Cowher taking the Carolina job. The Panthers are a mess and now that Andrew Luck is off the board, there is just not enough talent on that team to engineer a quick turnaround. Clausen is just not going to cut as their starting QB. Plus, the defense is lacking the talent neccessary for Cowher to run a strong defense coupled with a conservative run game. Gruden is also going to sit this one out. San Francisco was the only real good job out there for him but now that's gone thanks to Harbaugh.
I thought Ron Rivera got the Carolina gig. It is interesting though...everybody was clamoring for Gruden or Cowher to come into Houston and right the ship...but it seems the Texans and several other teams felt other coaches would be better fits. Harbaugh in SF. Sparano staying in Miami Kubiak staying in Houston. Coughlin staying in NY. Garrett in Dallas.
No, not this year. There are no more openings. Cowher recently said he isn't/wasn't ready to coach yet.

A couple of weeks ago, Pat Kerwan on Sirius NFL, who actually works with Cowher and hangs out with Cowher and talks with him several times a week, said that he thinks Cowher is not really interested in getting a job for at least another year. He said that Cowher is still dealing with raising his daughters in the aftermath of his wife's death. He wouldn't actually say that Cowher had told him anything specific, but when asked, the think he kept saying was, "If there is any doubt (presumably about wanting to coach), then there is no doubt" which makes it sound to me like Cowher didn't do anything more than dip his toes in the water. He also said that the money being thrown in the press for Cowher was a joke, and that in the right situation he'd work for a fraction of what had been quoted. Finely, he also indicated that he thought that Gruden was going to choose not to work this year as well, but he didn't elaborate as he did with Cowher. But it was clear that both making a conscious choice to not get a HC job, as opposed to wanting a gig but pricing themselves out of the market.
It seems like no one is interested in committing high figures for any coach when there is likely to be a big loss in revenue - preseason games, regular season games, merchandise, advertising. Players are saving paychecks, owners are also curtailing budgets. Makes sense.
