I wouldn't seek out somewhere to live just because there's a cop living next door, just like I wouldn't pass up somewhere to live just because there's a cop next door. I choose my domiciles based on the actual structure I'll be inhabiting - not the neighbors.

    Why do you ask this?

All of a sudden people's jobs prevent others from moving next to them?

I don't get it. I would understand if the guy was a known mass murderer or was a known felon or a con artist or... even a former Utah Jazz player, but... a cop? :( Why so scared? Just obey the law.
You wouldn't know it until you moved. Would you?

You wouldn't care if your neighbor was a pedophile? You ever hear of location, location, location? Much more goes into choosing where to stay than just the structure itself.

That's a lot different than what she's saying. JOB vs. KNOWN CRIME

Is that what she said? Aren't you the one who knocks people for not keeping to what they literally said?

Yeah, but she also said: "just like I wouldn't pass up somewhere to live just because there's a cop next door." That's what I'm thinking she meant to say. Of course, if you know someone is a pedophile you don't move next to them... dude, nobody checks that. I think? :(

    Ummm...

Perhaps I should have rephrased my response to say given two similarly valued homes within the same neighborhood of my choice, if one home had a cop living next door, it would not impact my decision to purchase either home.

It's an asset. The occupations of your family, friends, and neighbors are pretty helpful, and it's good to have some diversification. For example, my father is a good painter/carpenter, so he's great to have for home repair stuff. My father-in-law is a lawyer, so I can go to him for legal advice. My next-door neighbor is an electrician, and he's helped me out with wiring issues before. He has a son who is a cop, and I like it when he's parked out front when he comes to visit. He didn't want to be involved when I had a vandal because it wasn't his beat. But, if I had a cop who actually lived next door, I think he'd have been pretty helpful with that problem. And, since I don't commit crimes, I wouldn't expect any blowback. Even if I did commit crimes, I'd expect a neighbor cop would look the other way unless it was serious and/or annoying (like noise).

You don't know whether you are a law-abiding citizen, a drug dealer, and/or a rapist?

    What he said...

Why would this even be an issue?

Yes, I don't really do anything bad or illegal. Besides aren't they usually out on duty anyways?

..unless it's the other type of "bad"

As long as it wasn't an older grumpy black cop who was a year from retirement and getting too old for this sh^t but has recently been partnered with a younger white cop with a death wish and out to buck the system.

I mean who wants to deal with the exploding toilets, hiding Chinese immigrants from crime lords and fights with Gary Busey in the front yard.
