http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe/09/05/germany.osama/index.html I've seen everything now...thanks.
if they want their child to grow up with a life of ridicule, that is their own business... let 'em have the name.
I heard that in this past year, 1 out of every 7 babies born to Islamic familes have been named Osama Bin Laden.
That's like wanting to name your child Satan or Lucifer or Fucc. Why would you do that? Unless you're two of the biggest r****ds on the planet, it just doesn't make any sense. Maybe I'm just crazy or something.
I don't get it...do these families already have the last name "Bin Laden", or is "Osama Bin Laden" the entire first/middle name? Like "Osama Bin Laden Jones" or something?
Seriously? Where did you hear this? If true, it would indeed be a serious barometer of where things may head.
I just heard it from my friend, who happens to know a lot of pot heads so Im not too confident its true.
if that is true, i find that quite disturbing...if, as cohen says, that's a good barometer for sentiment concerning muslims, then we've got some real problems.
The way I see it Max, its not us who has some real problems. We're the ones with the most fearsome military machine in the history of civilization. We're the ones with the nukes. BRING IT.
I don't know, the sentiments I read was thousands of Bin Laden loyalist bailing out of Afghanistan after the U.S. sent the big guns into town.
Okay I'm a Muslim and I seriously doubt 1/7 babies born is named Osama. That is the stupidest thing I've heard. I mean I think I would have found out about atleast one baby. Talk about spreading some stupid and falso info. Heard it from a pothead? There is a source of legit info!
I agree with 03 on that point. Out of my whole life of living round muslim people.....well not actually living round them but being round them, I have not seen but 1 Osama. And I haven't seen any Bin Ladens. But mostly, Muslim names come for religious reasons. They stand for differnt names of god. They don't just pick names out of a hat like, Jim Jackson, Timmy Jones, Billy Bob James, etc etc That's why in a lot of muslim families, the last name of the parent is not always the last name of the child. For example, my father's last name is Fakharuddin. Mines is Burhanuddin and my grandfather's is Habeebuddin. Those are all different names for Allah (God). Burhan, Fakhar, and Habeeb all different names, but all the same meaning. I don't know what uddin means so hopefully someone more enlightened on this board will help me out. I think it means the follower of, but I'm not sure.
and I thought Moon Unit and Dweezil were bad. If I was running things you would get one chance to pick a normal name for your kid and if you picked something stupid, like say, Car Horn, the alarm would go off and they would bring in the rack of little liscense plates with all the standard names for kids that you put on your bike when you were little, and you would have to pick a name from those. (I'm kidding of course)
