Thought about this while reading the BMW thread.

Sunglasses - I never spend more than $12 on a pair. I'm just going to lose/break/sit on them after a few months anyway.

Watch - It just needs to tell me what time it is. No fashion statement neccesary. I got my current watch for $11.95 at Kohls. About a year ago.

Shoes - I never spend more than $50 a pair. I'm just going to step in a puddle and ruin them anyway.

Cellphone - My plan gives me a new phone every 2 years. I always pick the nicest FREE one they offer. All I need is phone and text.

Car - I bought my last car new in 2006. Never again. Next time I buy a car, it will be a used car from Carmax for a 3rd of the price.

Geez ima_drummer you sure are cheap!

I will not spend money on sunglasses either. Especially since the style for men is gigantic Jackie-o glasses.

i'd say car because my 2001 is still running just fine, and i'm fine with it. But when it dies, I might get something in the medium range instead of the relatively cheap

lol similar but not the same

i will buy one pair of good basketball shoes, regardless of the price as long as they are comfortable and provide support after that any shoe i buy is under 50 dollars. maybe i'll a bit more if its a really nice dress shoe

clothes - i never understood why people would spend a crap load of money a designer name. i took a gf's little brother to the mall one day and he was look at these t-shirts that were like 30-40 bucks because it said like Barneys or Barclay NY on it. I never understood that. Especially when you can find tshirts on the internet now for cheap, good funny ones too.

watches - i received 3 really nice and expensive watches as gifts over the years from family and all 3 have broke beyond repair, one literally shattered when it fell to the floor - i havent bought a watch since

dvds/cds/blu-rays - besides the whole 'i can just download these for "free"' aspect there are some things I want the actual thing but these are way too pricey than they need to be still.

food - if i go out no need for fancy stuff unless its a date or a special event. i know people who go to sit downs a lot just with a friend to hang out and the final bill would be around 40 bucks thats unnecessary.

alcohol at the bar - if i am going out for the purpose of drinking i usually pre-drink at my place so that when i get to the bar/club i only have to buy at most 3 drinks to get a good buzz

I don't really have a steadfast rule on what I will or won't spend money on. There's nothing wrong with owning a few pairs of really nice clothes, or owning a nice watch if it's what makes you happy, and you get good use out of it. Food and drinks are the types of things that, if someone wants to spend a lot of money on, I'm not going to judge them. You put that stuff in YOUR body, and honestly, good and healthy food and drinks cost money. I'd rather drink a good scotch, and catch a clean buzz rather than drink cheap vodka and wake up with a wicked hangover. The same goes for food. I'd much rather spend 20-30 extra dollars a month on healthy food, rather than eating at bargain basement locations. When it comes to food for me, quality ranks over quantity.

But, that being said, it's not like I condone going around throwing around c-notes on a casual dinner, or spending $300 on shoes that you only wear once or twice a year. It's all about being responsible with your finances, and not living beyond your means. If you can balance a good, fun, healthy lifestyle while maintaining your checkbook, then why not enjoy the money you work so hard to earn?

i'm pretty frugal but i don't know about refuse to spend money. I will be more than happy to pay for something if the quality is there.

for example, i do have a nicer pair of sunglasses, but there is high quality associated with them....they arent just some crappy designer pair where you are mostly paying for the name.

    Hotels/Airfare - I look for the cheapest deals. If i can't find one, i ain't going.

Food - Has to be a special occasion for me to spend a lot on dinner.

Software - I try to find freeware or stuff that's been cracked.

Gym Membership - I live a block away from a gym that charges $80 /month, but i drive 7-10 min to 24 hour fitness because its cheap.

Haircuts - Been cutting my own hair for years.

Probably undershirts and boxers. I just get mine from Old Navy. Not sure why some people spend so much money on nice undergarments. But to each their own.
