I just forgot to save the file I worked on all night last night before close the power point program. Is there any way to retieve it? I use windows ME. I feel like such an idiot right now. Help!
probably not. But it might have saved a temporary file on its own. If it did, then it invented a name. Click on My Computer and do an Advanced Search of your entire harddrive for any file created last night. If you find a temp file, renamed it to a valid Powerpoint file name, and give it a go. You also might try examining it with a file recovery program. good luck. btw: I ctrl-C after I do anything worth keeping, even just one sentence.
Look in C:\Windows\Temp to see if a copy may be in there. If not, do a search for the file name to see if a copy may be in some other folder. Do you have 'auto save' enabled in Power Point? If so, it saved a copy for you. A search would reveal it. If you are unsure as to what to search for, just enter ppt in the search box and all files with ppt (power point extension) will appear.
isn't there also a 'recent documents' folder? check for that and see if a temp copy of your file exists.
Thanks for all the advice. My file was gone. But here's what I find out worth sharing: autosave works and only works in case of a power outage or clash. In that case, C:\Windows\Temp should have a copy. It's deleted if you close the program without save. Hp's advice is most sound, save every other minutes in case your brain isn't working for a moment like mine. I should go back to work on it again
I don't think you could find a person on this board who does not share your pain..... Take solace in the fact that your work WILL be better the second time around.
