The Mavericks surf contest, which only takes place when the waves get big enough (20+ feet), has been set for today. Coverage starts around around 10:05 EST. There are various live streams. I've posted the facebook stream below- http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/mavericks?v=app_320168025528&ref=nf
Okay the surge just almost took down the announcer scaffolding. And some spectator on the beach got a broken leg.
The crazy things is that biggest waves out there look they are walling out and unsurfable. I can't imagine misreading a wave with the stakes that high.
Hey franchise, we're moving out to California this summer. To Roseville, just north of Sacramento. The plan is to make frequent surf/camp trips to Santa Cruz area. If I make down LA way we'll have to hook up to go surfing.
Oh hell me either. Anything above 5 ft unless is pretty much too crazy for me. I was projecting that if I could ride those. I suck at it, but it's a blast. It amazes me to watch big wave surfers do their thing.
Oh cool. That would be awesome. Definitely let me know. Plan multiple trips and we'll hit a different spot each time.

That was great! Big Wave contests have too much down time for the announcers. Those guys were hittin' the sponsorship a bit too hard.
Yeah, I felt kind of sorry for those guys. Almost went down with the scaffolding, tons of down time to fill, couldn't see the surfers clearly enough to id them because they lost communication with the spotters on their boat.
I watched a little of it earlier on the link. I saw this news piece on it a little while ago. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5j3pJDnHrNexDZVBsqURne0I8t_7gD9DRN6LO0
