I know the summer almost up, but I'm about to take my summer vacation on Friday. My dad, my mom, my friend and I will all go to Galveston and chill for a week. Unfortunately my 2.50 posts a day will go way down. Oh well, I'll have fun. Now don't go signing Rashard without me, ok? We will probably check out the sites there like Moody Gardens and some NASA place, but we will mainly just fish and swim.

BTW Don't ask me anything important about the trip because I barely know where it is. My dad did the planning and I said ok.

So anyway, what have you done or will do on you summer vacation?

I was gonna start a similar thread! The wife, kids, and myself are headed to Florida tomorrow for two weeks. Along the way we'll be stopping in Biloxi, Mississippi and Appalachicola, Florida before making it to Tampa. We're gonna stay with some friends for a few days, see the sights, hit the beaches, then head to Orlando for a cruise to the Bahamas. We're gonna check out the Atlantis Resort in Nassau, then spend a day at Disney's private Island.

After all that, it's back up the Florida coast, taking our time heading home.

    Behad that sounds excellent!

When you're in Appalachicola (I think that's where it is) there are tons of natural springs and one of them is where they filmed "The Creature from the Black lagoon" (the original 1954 version). Supposedly it's bottomless.

The wife and I are heading to the great north woods of Maine once again on Friday for a week. Lots of fishing, margaritas, and naked lake swimming!

Then in September it's off to Martha's Vineyard for a week of hobnobbing with the rich and famous.

My girlfriend and I decided to splurge a bit and just booked a trip to Ocho Rios Jamacia. The rates are fantastic this time of year and there are quite a few companies trying to attract business.

Wakulla Springs, just outside Apalachicola, is the location you are thinking about. Time permitting, I'd love to see it!

We're going to the Caymans next Friday. We're only going because RM95's good friend is getting married there...we couldn't afford to otherwise.

Behad, sounds like fun! I'd much rather take a road trip.

I'm heading to Australia for the first time in thirteen years some time in mid-October or early November. I'll probably miss the beginning of the season. Oh well...

WHAT! CANCEL THE TRIP! You can't miss the Rockets. If it cost you a million dollars to cancel the trip, do it! Australia will still be there next summer! JK

Have a good time in Australia. You wouldn't happen to know the Croc Hunter, would you? You could possibly visit his zoo.

There's a lot of nothing in the Apalachicola area - which is either really good or bad, depending on how you look at it. A huge national forest and a lot of good sightseeing and preservation land, but not much in the way of a lot of people; you have to cut north to Tallahassee for that.

I just suggest that when you go to Orlando, though, stay off of I-4 downtown and US 192 towards Disney. Too much construction and traffic delays to deal with, especially if you are just passing through.

As for my summer vacation - I'm about ready to get back up to school here in 23 days. I love being home and doing nothing, but it's about time to get back to work.

    Lucky bastids, taking vacations!

My vacation time this year will likely be spent hammering, or laying tile, or roofing or some such thing as I build my house. Not much of a vacation, but well worth it in the long run.

I have to go back to school soon also. But not college. I had my physical yesterday at my school. Unlike you, I don't want the school year to come up just yet. I still have a book to read too.
"All Quiet on the Western Front" is the name. I got about 1/3 done, but plenty of time. Its not my type of book though. Then again, I don't enjoy many books.

Thanks for the tips. One thing we have heard about Apalachicola, or more specifically, St. George island, is the natural, undisturbed beach areas. My kids are avid shell collectors, and we hear the shell hunting is great there. We'll only be there 24 hours, so we won't have time to get bored.

That whole area is fairly undisturbed, except for a few small areas where they have commercial operations set up for sea farming and the like; even then, the residents are trying to get those places out of the area.

Shell hunting is pretty good along the big bend area due to the topography of the region, though if you are in Tampa for a few days, it's worth the two hour drive down to Ft. Myers and Sanibel Island, one of the best shell fishing places in the nation (if not the world). Plus, it's a very nice, relatively quiet beach with half of the island taken up by a nature reserve.

You're the third person to tell us about Sanibel Island. We are gonna check it out next week. We'll be in Tampa for 4 days, so one of those days will be a road trip down.

Behad, sounds like you've done your research. We went to a nice swimming hole, Fanning Springs or the one right next to it once and it was great! Maybe two hours north of Tampa kinda near Manatee Springs. I'll look at the map and tell you for sure. Have fun! Are you heading out early in the morn?

This trip has been planned since February. I've researched, re-researched, and searched again! :D

    Heading out at 5am!
