Did anyone watch this tonight? A very good piece they did on him. This is one of the saddest things I have ever watched.

If you missed it comes back on at 9:30 Eastern tomorrow on ESPN 2.

I'm only 21 so obviously I didn't get to see him play but for anyone who did can you tell me just how great he was? I've heard many say he was better than Jordan in College.

It comes on at 10:00 Eastern tomorrow, not 9:30. My bad.

I grew up in Maryland and want to Lefty Driesell's basketball camp shortly after Bias died. It was a huge loss for a lot of people. In terms of basketball, he was a phenomenon with as much hype and potential as any player I can recall.

Thanks. How long did it take for Maryland's basketball program to recover? From the documentary it seems like a lot of people players/coaches/etc. that were there when Bias was there never recovered.

Jordan was a good college player, but he was not yet the pro Jordan. Bias was better at the time. He was so good, so strong, so powerful, so skilled that while I was pissed he got drafted by the hated Celtics I was happy for him going into that situation and I didn't hate them nearly as much. He played beautiful, brilliant basketball.

I was living in DC at the time, just out of grad school at UVA, and when I heard, it was the same feeling I had when Cosell announced Lennon had been shot. Disbelief and shock.

(I've posted on this topic a couple of times. I'll see if I can dig them up.)

Just one of NBA's tradegies, along with Sabonis wasting his career elsewhere and Ralph Samson breaking his leg....and of course Rox passing on a Jordan/Hakeem career peat :p

He was the Jordan of the College game at the time. The single most exciting player in the ACC and maybe all of basketball.

Jordan had to play within the confines of Dean Smiths system which was very disciplined. It was so disciplined that their own fans would chant "BORING" when they went into a stalled offense.

On the other hand, Lefty let Bias do whatever he wanted and he was awesome. He had an outside jumper and could drive the basket. He really looked like a pro among boys.

The Michael Ray Richardson story was sad too, but obviously not as sad as this one.
