I used to live over there....."the Duplexes at Walnut Creek". Rent was pretty cheap.

Now that I think about it, the best advice that I can give you is to find a realtor that does apartment locating. NOT one of the apartment locator services. I found a realtor, and she told me about really cool, affordable places that I had never heard about before. Every time I have called the apartment locators (FindIt, etc) it is always the same old crap. If you decide you want to call a realtor, let me know and I may still have the card for the realtor I used. If so, I'd be happy to give you her information.

Yes, all the apts. on Metric have dropped rent drastically. Nice places like Marquis at Walker's Bluff, Camden Huntingdon, etc. are between $825-$935 for a 2-2. Problem with the area is that it's a little to suburban for me.

Just finished Apartment hunting in North Austin/Plugerville/South Roound Rock.

Mandalay was the best cheap option.
Riverhorse and the Enclave topped as the best apartments.

    Enclave Adv
    Huge.
    Great price/sq foot
    well built nice looking
    Pretty new.
    Amenities rock.
    Parking garage.
    Near La frontera
    on 1325 near I35

    Riverhorse
    Just built.
    well built nice looking.
Big apartments, not Enclave size though.
    Extremely cute leasing personel.
For the film critic trying to lose weight....Tinseltown North is a good jog away.
Near grand avenue parkway exit on 35

    Mandalay
    good size for price.
Identical to San Paloma, next door, but cheaper and you don't have to pay for a mirror.
Heb on corner of Parmer/35 rocks
Can legaly and illegally drive faster on Parmer east of 35 than you can on Houston freeways
Great access to 290 for trips to rocket games.

    We were looking at 3/2's.

    UGH......

All this Dallas bashing is humorous. Pretentious? There are definitely pockets of pretentious residents and even posh neighborhoods, and some scores of women that are looking for a meal ticket rather than a mate. But I know damn well that it is not a "Dallas" thing. I also lived in Houston and Austin for pretty good stretches of my life.

HOWEVER, the majority of people I know and deal with, am friends with, are NOT like that at all. I have been in the DFW metroplex for 13 years, and it's all about who you associate with. No one is going to make you talk to the girl with breast implants and collagen (sp?) injected lips at the bar.

Spend an evening on Lower Greenville Ave. hopping from place to place, and you'll find that the people and places are pretty comparable to many of Austin's and Houston's establishments.

(Now Addison and North Dallas are a bit different)

Dallas is a great city, and there are a lot of really nice suburbs.

That's right outside my back gate! They probably are more economical than these fancy apartments which were built for the high-tech economy... our place is nice, but not really big enough.

Joe Joe - so true about people driving on what I call "the Parmerbahn". Pretty scary.... also, the good thing about living at IH-35 and Parmer is that afternoon rush hour is never that bad. No matter what time you go home, it isn't too bad if you just get off the freeway (assuming you're the one coming from Austin) at the Yager exit. Living anywhere beyond Parmer, you might have to sit in backed-up traffic. The HEB is nice, but way too big... if I just want to run in for something, it takes forever. Unless I want some specialty item or take-out, I stick to the one at Parmer and Mopac, which is also close by and open 24 hours. :)

RM95, I work for an apartment management company that owns complexes in both Houston and Dallas (and quite a few places besides, including Austin). The company runs B and B+ apartments (that is, not fancy but well-kept).

I've seen a number of the complexes in Houston but none in Dallas. If you want to know more about the company, send me an email.

When we were apt-hunting, it came down to Old Farm and Remington Park. Both are pretty new and have nice floorplans.

Our personal choice was Remington Park - it's just on the south edge of the Galleria and is really nice - as the members who came to the basketball game can attest.

You living here would have the added bonus of us being able to host cc.net bball games again. Even better, you could get me a referral bonus :D

I mostly stick with Parmer and Mopac also since I live on Gracy Farms in Cable Nazi Apartments, great place except if you want a good cable provider. The one at 35 isn't bad if you use their self service lines or the hidden express line all by itself on the southern part of the store to grab something quick.
