why? the whole point of a union is to create a government sponsored monopoly for labor so wages rise.
Is that really the only possible answer? If that were the case why would Obama have the idiotic idea of giving bonuses for pay based on test results to teachers. The union is strongly against that. Obama is wrong, but he feels that merit pay based on test scores is the way to go, so he's going that way. He isn't doing it just to please the unions.
