I ran into this video the other day. My friend insists he is ripping off Nas, but I think it holds its own merit. Can you rip off a rapping style? What do you think? <object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=3681485&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=3681485&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><br /><a href="http://vimeo.com/3681485">AMEISH - "Save Ourselves"</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/secrethistory">Secret History</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>. http://www.myspace.com/mosaictunes
His flow, delivery, and voice are pretty much exactly like Nas', so yeah I'd say its a pretty big rip off. Whether he intentionally did it or not, you can obviously tell he was heavily influenced by him.
Ummm... I have to disagree to with that statement. Either you haven't heard Nas enough, or your aren't a Hip Hop head... Dude sounds nothing like Nas... He just sounds like another rapper to me. Nothing stands out really.
As a person who has heard a LOT of Nas (I own every his first seven albums), I have to say that this guy does sound a lot like Nas. That doesn't necessarily mean he's ripping him off, though. I actually liked the song, so thanks for posting it, I had never heard it before.
He 100% sounds like Nas. I doubt he really is ripping him, they just have many similarities in their devilery and voice. Decent rapper.
Considering I've listened to all of Nas' albums, and used to be a Hip Hop and Rap DJ, I think I might have a bit of credibility. But go ahead and educate me Mr. Hip Hop Head.
I have saw Nas in concert like 4 times, one of my personal fav's of all time. I can probably recite every song he has done. With that in mind, the guy does sound like him, not as talented, not as deep, but if you close your eyes on the vid, yes...similarities do exist. Whoever says otherwise, needs to pop in illimatic.
How many here actually bought Illmatic when it dropped and not 15 years later? IMHO, this sounds more closer to Nas than this dude... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cdbzBevUvCA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cdbzBevUvCA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
So now a person's ability to hear similarities in different voices is affected by when they bought their first Nas album?
