Don't lose faith. That is totally possible. Thanks for the great work Scribo. This is why this forum is so invaluable.

It was a great night for the Rockets as Magic Number fell across the board, and we picked up a key tie break. The Rockets played a big game in Enver with huge Playoff implications. They looked sloppy and lethargic at times, and their free throw shooting was atrocious. Still they managed to prevail in an ugly contest on the tail end of a back-to-back. Nights like this bode well for us, because we’re going to need to win these types of games down the stretch and in the Playoffs. The free throw shooting needs to improve pronto. That will come back and bite us if we don’t start knocking them down like we have most of the season. Despite the choppy play, the Rockets bagged a W, and all Magic Numbers drop 1. With out victory, we take the season series 3-1 over Enver. That drops their Magic Number by 3 overall. This is also a huge victory for tie break purposes if we wind up in a multi-team tie with the Nuggets. Enver is absolutely imploding right now, losing 8 of their last 11. They’ve lost their division lead, have fallen to the #7 seed, and are in danger of slipping to #8. I’d say right now, the Nuggets are a lot more likely to miss the Playoffs than the Mavs. They do have an easy schedule coming up, but if they continue their poor play that might not be enough to save them. The Hornets went for their 8th straight victory in Atlanta. While they had put together a pretty good streak, New Orleans didn’t exactly face a lineup of Contenders, and they played with fire a number of times, barely eeking out victories over some pretty bad teams. Atlanta had sputtered lately, seemed to have righted their ship, but then found out Marvin Williams is out indefinitely with a back injury. The Hawks played a great game and beat a sloppy and inconsistent Hornets team. Chris Paul had 24 points and 10 assists but also had 6 turnovers, and David West combined 20 rebounds with 8-21 shooting. Even Tyson Chandler managed just 2 points and 5 rebounds. Joe Johnson had 30 points for the Hawks, who maintain their hold on the #4 seed in the East. The Hornets lose an additional Magic Number. The Lakers and Blazers met in Portland for a Contender Battle. The Blazers came to play and surprisingly annihilated the Lakers, who have dropped 3 straight road games. That certainly bodes well for the Rockets when the Lakers visit Houston on Wednesday. There was a scary moment in the third quarter when Rudy Fernandez was fouled hard and had to be taken off the court in a stretcher with his neck in a brace. No word on his condition, but he did have full use of his extremities. Brandon Roy had 27 points and Joel Przbilla added 12 points and 18 rebounds for the Blazers. Kobe had 26 points on 11-29 shooting for the Lakers, who drop an additional Magic Number with the loss. In physics, there’s a classic paradox of the Irresistible Force and Immovable Object. We got to witness this in a Cellar Dweller Battle featuring the Wizards, sporting a 5 game losing streak, visiting the Wolves, proud owners of a 9 game losing streak. Apparently the Wizars were the Irrestitible Force, and the Wolves were knocked down. Caron Butler had 27 points and 10 rebounds, and Antawn Jamison added 26 points for the Wizards. The loss officially eliminates Minnesota from Playoff contention, so we’re down to a board of 10. This might actually be the last Cellar Dweller Battle I have to cover this year. The Rockets are off Tuesday, but there are 3 games being played, including the intriguing Mavs at Suns. Phoenix is fighting for their Playoff lives in this one. On tap for Tuesday: Jazz at Pacers, Bobcats at Spurs, Mavs at Suns
D. Granger MIGHT be back on Tuesday, so Indy might have a excellent shot at beating Utah. CHA beating SA would be awesome, but its a long shot... and definitely want Phoenix to win as well.
scribo, i dont know what kind of job you have that allows you to be up posting this late, but i appreciate it! i was really hoping for the blazers to get the loss so we can start creating some separation. no luck there. however it would be a great consolation if the lakers frustration leads to the suspension of odom and ariza for our match up against them on wednesday. losing odom would be a huge blow to their front court. gasol-mbenga-powell should be no match for yao-scola-landry.
He's in Seattle and is working on west coast time. So that affords him a couple of more hours than if he were in Houston.
Thanks, Scribo. Best thread ever with daily data update and review. Now this thread has become my first read on my way to work.
Thanks. It's the same bug that affected the Spurs, Hornets, and Mavs. It's fixed for future Magic Number Charts, and I updated the last one. Good catch.
Guys, there is no need to quote the entire, long post, and then add two lines of commentary on your own. It clutters the thread. Just say what you're gonna say without the quote.

It was streak night in the NBA! There were quite a few streaks on the line, but unfortunately none of the outcomes broke in our favor. The Jazz had won 11 straight, but they are a pretty wretched road team and were facing a Pacers team with a knack for taking down division leaders. The Pacers battled tough, but had 22 turnovers and allowed the Jazz to prevail down the stretch. Paul Milsap had 22 points and 9 rebounds, and Deron Williams had 12 assists for the Jazz, who are now sporting a 12 game winning streak. The Jazz will get a real road test with their next three against the Hawks, Heat, and Magic. I have a feeling they won’t return to Utah with their streak intact. The Bobcats had won a franchise best 6 in a row, but they had a difficult path to 7 straight with the Spurs coming to town. Charolette battled the Spurs to a draw through 3 quarters, but the Spurs dominated the Bobcats in the fourth quarter to snap their streak. Timmy had 18 points and 11 rebounds, Monsieur Parker had 21 points and 7 assists, and Roger Mason chipped in another 21 points for the Spurs. The Rockets play in Charolette on Friday. The Suns have had their finger poised over the Big Red Button that says PANIC for awhile now, but they’re mashing it like crazy after they dropped their fifth straight loss to the visiting Mavs. Dallas is now 5 full games up on Phoenix, and they lead the season series 2-1 with one game left in Dallas. The Suns are 1-5 on their Seven Games of Doom stretch and still have the Cavs before they get to an easier patch. I think this pretty much eliminates Phoenix from the Playoffs. Dirk had 34 points and 13 rebounds for Dallas, and Steve Nash had 23 points and 13 assists for the Suns, who drop a Magic Number. The Lakers bring their own 3 game road losing streak to Houston tomorrow night. This is another huge test for us, and a victory would keep us at the top of the 3-7 scrum. The Rockets have been playing really well at home, and Lamar Odom is suspended. Shane and Artest have done a bang up job on LeBron and Carmelo recently, but they face an even sterner challenge against the Sith Lord, Darth Mamba. I feel good about this game. Also on tap for Wednesday: Jazz at Hawks, Hornets at Wizards, Thieves at Nuggets, Mavs at Blazers, Nets at Warriors
The thing that scares me most about our remaining schedule is the fact that we still have road games remaining against the Lakers, Spurs, Jazz, Hornets, Mavericks, Suns, AND Warriors (who are still a dangerous team if you allow them to be). If we only win one or even two of those games, that could very easily be the difference between a 3 seed and home court, or a 7 seed and a match-up with the Spurs in the first round. Scary, scary stuff coming up this month.
Even Utah? I know we don't have a choice in the matter really, and having home court is better than NOT having it, but man.....if we have to play Utah again the first round, I would be convinced that there is a higher power working against us.
if we are a lower seed i would love to play the spurs. they are the best team out of the top dogs (lakers, spurs, jazz) that we match up well with. i would rather play the lakers than the jazz.
Man, I would love to clinch a playoff spot early this year. It looks like there is a possibility for that to happen.
Jazz down 13 at halftime - hopefully they will lose and we'll put a little distance between us and them.
