I just heard over the radio that Tim Duncan's dad has died. He will be leaving the the Virgin Islands and WILL NOT be available for their game tomorrow.

Sad news for a good guy. Has anyone else heard this?

That's awful...even when he comes back, I can't imagine concentrating on something as trivial as basketball in a situation like that....

    :(

Must be rough having to be in the playoffs and have your father pass away. Can't imagine what he is going through.
Spurs should huddle up and take this game on their own and show the rest of the league without the twin towers we can still win.
Take your time Duncan your trophy awaits.

How horrible. Not only is that a tragic and awful thing for Tim and his family, it also takes away any good feeling that seeing the Sonics win tomorrow would have given me.

Sadly, I believe Tim's mother passed away a few years ago from cancer, and his father was his only parent left. Tragic news.

For the rest of the Spurs, I agree with Troy. Though the talent won't be there, it would be incredible for them to win this one for Tim off of emotion.

Cat, if the Sonics win the series because of Duncan being out, then just forget about the bet.

Nice to see the classy responses here.

Duncan's mother passed away due to breast cancer when he was 12 or 13 years old. One of her wishes was that he graduate from college. Which is why he stayed all 4 years at Wake Forest when he could have been the #1 pick had he left after his junior year, if not earlier.

His father had been ill for some time.

The toughest part about this whole thing is that Duncan is only 26. And now both of his parents have passed. extremely unfortunate. I turn 22 in a few days and I feel real lucky to have both my parents still alive.

I would not be surprised if Duncan missed Game 5 (if seattle wins game 4) and I wouldn't question that decision for a second.

Yeah, losing a parent definitely sucks.

I lost my dad and came close to losing my mom so I know how it can mess with your head.

I wouldn't be surprised if he just gave up on the playoffs this year all-together. Just take time off and regroup over the summer Tim.

Tim Duncan is a nice young man,I'm very sorry to hear of his father's demise.I wish the best for him and his family.
Concentrating on basketball will be difficult for him even when he comes back.
I hope the Spurs will win the next game for him.
