EA Gives Release Schedule for Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, and Bad Company 2

Dragon Age: Origins PC Delayed, Accompanying Console Versions to Stores

Update: During its call with investors, Electronic Arts CEO John Rictiello said that the delay was due to marketing, but that BioWare will continue to polish the PC release.

Ricitiello further stated that the RPG will arrive in the company's third quarter, which runs from October 1 to December 31.

Original: Once slated to arrive in early 2009, the PC version of BioWare's Dragon Age: Origins will now arrive alongside the console versions in the second half of 2009.

BioWare did not specify if the PC version was being held back until the console editions were completed, or if the PC release simply needed more development time.

"I'm really proud of our team, who are working very hard to make Dragon Age: Origins the biggest and most exciting BioWare game yet, and we will work to ensure it not only meets, but exceeds the expectations of our loyal audience," said CEO Ray Muzyka.

Mass Effect 2, Battlefield: BC 2 Coming Next Year

BioWare's Mass Effect 2 and a sequel to DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company will arrive in the first three months of 2010, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has revealed.

Riccitiello appeared to confirm a multi-platform release for Mass Effect 2 in today's conference call, suggesting that it will hit both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at launch.

The first Mass Effect was a console exclusive for Xbox 360, trailed by a PC release a few months later. BioWare has suggested the sequel may follow that model.

The Battlefield: Bad Company sequel will presumably follow in the footsteps of the console-only original, which hit PS3 and Xbox 360 in the summer of 2008.

Both games will be released during the fourth quarter of the publisher's 2010 fiscal year, which runs from January 1 to March 31.

Dead Space Coming to Wii

Speaking with investors on a conference call today, EA CEO John Riccitiello revealed that Redwood Shores' action-horror franchise Dead Space will be heading to the Wii.

The CEO was mum on the details, but noted that the title should retain the so-called fear factor of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 editions that arrived in the fall of 2008.

A couple of other delays and release notes. Mirror's Edge and Dead Space are both past 1M copies. L4D is at 1.8M+, not counting Steam sales. And EA had a horrible quarter ($641M net loss). Guess that means EA will quit trying to be innovative...

edit: Oh yeah, forgot to add...

The Shacknews reports suggests that EA was implying that ME2 would release on PS3/360 ("multiple platforms"). EA PR later confirmed that they were talking about PC/360, not PS3.

Crap! I was hoping Dragon Age was going to stick to an early-2009 release. Ugh... I don't think I'll be waiting for any games now in the first part of the year.

Apparently they also pushed Godfather II to 2010. It was supposed to come out this month.

Not really related to the EA news, but I was checking out Shacknews earlier to see if any other details came out. Turns out GameFly bought Shacknews. OK...
