    I read about this a while back and it's one of the main reasons I make sure that my 360 is turned off at the wall when I'm not using it.

    I always thought it was referring to people leaving their system plugged in. If they're actually referring to it being ON, then yeah...who does that?

    The report by the NRDC has some charts with the amount of power used by the consoles when off, and those are all really small (practically nothing), so I would assume they're talking about leaving it on but idle. Most of the idle numbers are really high...in some cases, the consoles use more power in idle mode than when it is in active mode (especially some PS3 models). There are several different examples of this kind of stuff in the report, like the F@H application on the PS3 (power savings when using different options).

    edit: Of course, maybe ~$10 figure a year is accurate if you have it turned off but plugged in. Although there are two different "off" modes, so maybe that affects things.

    I turn all of my entertainment and computer stuff off via power strip when I'm not using it. The only exceptions are my DVR (which needs to be on to record shows) and my modem (which I don't want to constantly reconfigure.

    I also keep my microwave unplugged unless I'm using it.

    Over the past year, my electric bill has averaged about $45.

    I'm confused.

    My PS3 stays plugged into the wall at all times - and there is a red "off light".

    Is that what this article is referring to? My PS3, even though not being used, is draining energy with that red off light?

    I do unplug the washer/dryer every time...It's hard to unplug the microwave because the plug is well hidden in the cabinets.

    I hardly unplug the TVs and my phone charger because I use them daily.

    i feel like i've entered a new world here.

    I leave everything plugged in at all times.

    My electric bills are sky high - so if it actually makes a difference to unplug things - I'll do it. I just had no idea!
