For grins, I went to http://groups.google.com/ and did a search on my email, and found over 500 postings going back 5 years. I thought that I only used usenet when I need an answer on something, I had no idea I rely on it that much (although I admit many of the 1997-1998 postings where in the Rockets newsgroup). Do ya'll use usenet much? What do ya'll find helpful? I like it for quick help on home repairs, programming and travel recommendations.
If you search using 'clutchcity', you can read some of Clutch's ads from 1997, and some GS troll who's trying to send other trolls to the Clutch BBS.
OMG...are people STILL doing that "turn six dollars into thousands" scam? I thought that thing died along with pets.com and DIVX...
Do ya'll use usenet much? Yes, I like to read the Houston dot newsgroups along with other town's eats/foods groups. I have quite a few usenet groups bookmarked but rarely visit.
I looked up my email address and found that most of my postings had to do with the Houston expansion team debate, including a bet I made with someone that he never paid off (I bet that Houston would get the expansion team over Los Angeles).
Oldest one I found was 9/16/97, about a lost family member of a neighbor of mine. I know there are some slightly older, but I don't know what email addy I was using.
wow I did a search for clutchcity and a post of mine was the first to come up. I forgot I had used it way back in the day.
hey rH did you see this: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=c...TON57.1960$8o1.84650@quark.idirect.com&rnum=7
hmm dont think i ever used usenet.. what program was the cc.com board before this one in.. oh well i guess i'm a little young to have used it.. although today is my 19th birthday so i'm moving on up there in age
What the hell are you guys doing posting so much crap to usenet? Use it for what it was designed for: p*rn, warez, mp3's and crappy VCR video captures from some guy watching 'The Phantom Menace' in a movie theater in Singapore.
I did that search recently. It was . . . interesting. Ever get embarrased reading some of your old posts. Like ones saying you think Matt Maloney has a real future at the PG spot!!??
something to remember when posting on the usenet. if you don't want to end up in a google search, use x-no-archive: yes at the very top of your post and your posts will not be archived. I did a search for my email addy and found only a select few posts in which i forgot to add the x-no-archive: yes or found posts that contained my email addy like in a reply.
Bar none, Usenet has been the most-used and most valuable tool on the Internet for me since the late-80's. Oh, and I'm not crazy enough to use my real email address on those things so mail harvesters can get them.
