NY Daily News, reprinted at Manhattan Institue (Conservative Think-Tank) Website. Obviously the bolding and underlining near the bottom of the article are mine...

What a stupid thing to write in an article. Because it will never really be gone, people shouldn't bring it up when it occurs? We've seen the Bradly effect, we've seen racism at McCain/Palin rallies. We've seen that 1/3 of Democrats won't vote for Obama because he's black.

To act like we should just ignore racism because we can't have 100% success in eradicating it is just a bad idea.

i agree with the writer that the bradley affect was years ago, times change. you have to remember, the majority of people voting in 82 were born before the civil rights movement. civil rights laws weren't even 20 years old, so you still had an older generation. we are 26 years beyond that, and forty years beyond the civil rights movement.

Its not that the civil rights movement automatically changes people's minds, but most people now have grown up in an integrated society where race is not the major politcial issue. People either don't accept or don't understand prior to civil rights, race was the major issue of this country on a year to year basis. I don't agree that just because racism is a problem that will always exists, that it shouldn't be fought

also, there are a few people talking about race but its not being made a big deal, specifically out of the obama camp. i think most people are fairly acceptable of the fact that you can't make people do something they don't want. so if a lot of people end up not voting for obama because he's black, people will accept that this is the reality and they will move on and be disappointed and hope things will change more.

Lets hope the writer is right. But as the previous poster said, racism does exist. Having a blind eye and minimizing racism to a small % or a rare occurance is ignorant. (less than a year ago, 2007 jena 6)

Sure we have come a very long way as a country, but it was not too long ago where a 'black' president was a pipe dream.
