[NOT POOP RELATED] Heard a rumbling/explosion in Austin

    I was just sitting at my desk eating my lunch, when I heard a rumbling, explosionish sound coming from the north. Looking out the window, I can see thick black smoke rising. It looks like it's in the area of the Walmart off of 1-35, just north of 183. Anyone else see it?

    Investigators with the Austin Fire Department are trying to determine what caused a fire that damaged several businesses in North Austin this morning. No one was injured in the incident, firefighters said.

    Chief Dawn Clopton, a spokeswoman for the Austin Fire Department, said the fire at a strip mall in the 7600 block of North Lamar Boulevard began in the A+ Buffet restaurant around 1:45 a.m. It took firefighters 30 minutes to extinguish the fire, officials said.

    The cause of the fire and damage estimates have not yet been determined.

    Phong Tran, the owner of the Super Spin laundromat near the strip of businesses said that one of his employees was at his business this morning when she saw smoke coming from behind a dryer. Super Spin was one of 6 other businesses officials said had smoke damage from the fire.

    tinman, that one happened last night. What I am seeing is going on as we speak. There are currently fire trucks en route.

    might just be a a huge traffic accident. i hate 35.
