Don't you mean "TEXAS"? All will be fine if we take care of business at the Big 12 Tournament. If not, well...we can move on to football.
I remember a run UT made with Reggie Freeman. Got past Wisconsin, Coppin State, then got beat by Louisville in Syracuse, NY. Don't know the year though. I remember UT had some messed up jersey with burnt orange and black trim (white curvy lines), and the home uni's were gray instead of white.
My freshman year, 1996-97 season, UT lost in the Sweet 16 to Louisville. We "should" have beaten them in Austin earlier in the year. They hit a 3 ptr that came just after the buzzer to force OT, then they won in OT. No matter. Those penders teams couldn't play much D, but they usually were willing to sacrifice that for the chance to get some quick points back. And any shot was a good shot. Ask Reggie Freeman. Anyway, this team has been one of the most satisfying team to watch because my expectations dropped. That was especially the case after Owens went down with an injury. However, this is a much better "team" than in the past, and i think a lot of that has to do with the fact that TJ is the first productive point guard we've had since i can remember, as well as the fact that Texas finally can go beyond playing only 6 or 7 players. We now are 9 or 10 deep, and have role players like Sydmill Harris, Fredie Williams, and Boddicker that can come in and help the team in specific ways, based on matchups. Plus, Thomas is a hoss under the boards. Very fun to watch. As the season progressed, i simply wanted to make the tourney, and know that we should be much better as this team gets older. I'm glad we've accomplished that, because i really don't see us going deep in the tourney. Past failures plus a real young team don't bode too well, though at least we have a bit of experience getting spanked last year. PS sorry about this "we" business. I guess i'm one of those fans that always speaks as if i'm on the team....FAT chance for me....
