I'm on jury duty right now. This is my question.... If we convict on 2 of 3 charges, and get hung on the third, what happens? Do the two convictions hold? And if they do, what happens to the third charge....is there another trial for just that charge??
ummm..you really shouldn't be talking about this outside of the confines of that jury room...and you can direct questions like this to the judge.
Hehe. What Max said. I love our jury system, and I love the internet, but the two shouldn't mix during trial!
See. That's taking it too far. This is a general question that has nothing to do with the case. You could apply this to any case anywhere. I don't want to drag in the attourneys and clients for such a simple question.
huh??? you're in jury duty!!! all questions get asked to the judge!!! you don't have to drag in the attorneys and clients for that...
I'm not sure how it works in other cases, but I can tell you that everytime we have a question everbody is called into the courtroom. Lawyers, clients, bailiffs, and whatever. It doesn't matter how stupid the question is. I guess they have a right to know...beats me, but that is how it works.
As far as I know, the two convictions hold. It would be the same as he was found guilty on two and not guilty on the third. There could be another trial for the third charge if the prosectors choose to take the time to have one, but the prosecutors may not think it worth the time or effort to have another trial depending on the circumstances. That's generally speaking, of course.
Thanks paige. I was curious about that. It really has no impact on our decision making process, but it's something I've been wondering about. The one thing I can say is that if you have a chance to do jury duty then you shouldn't try to get out it. You should do it. You learn more than you could ever learn from a book. It has been a fascinating experience and I would be glad to do it again.
