Dude looks like a dinosaur out there. Im surprised he didnt need a cane. Unfortunately, Hakeem is going to be remembered as a player who didnt bow out and retire when he knew his career was on a serious downturn. At this point he is just blowing his overall career statistics, and in the process making a mockery of his former MVP self.
Why all the hate? If Hakeem wants to keep going why the hate? To preserve his statistics? That doesn't really seem relevant to a decision to whether to ever hoop it up again against NBA competition for the rest of his life. How many centers are there that are WORSE than Dream in the NBA? Most of them. No, he is not the force he once was, but so what. Its posts like this that make a mockery of being a fan of the man. Hakeem will be remembered for the same things he would have been if he'd retired last year, an Hall of Fame career and his two championships (and counting). Playing in Toronto will do nothing to diminish that. The fact is that very few athletes go out on top, so this is natural. Chill out.
Whats your point again? If he's helping the Raptors out so much, then why is he riding pine in the 4th and most crucial quarter of a close game, and Antonio Davis playing the 5?
Hakeem does look bad, but come on! There's no way Hakeem's going to be remembered as a guy that didn't know when to retire, he's not Patrick Ewing! Hakeem will probably be remembered as one of the most graceful centers of all-time, and one of the greatest athletes in Houston sports history...
Your talking about players who were actually playing well when they retired...... All of those players listed actually looked respectable when they played/boxed during the twilight of their careers...... not looking like an elderly citizen walking down to the drug store to get their prescription (see Patrick Ewing).
No doubt.... I agree with you completely. My point is, if he keeps playing like he is for the next 2 years or whatever, he is going to look like a has been, when he should be remembered for all of the great things he did while in a Rockets uniform. Im just bitter.....
I guess you didnt' see Ali's comeback fights, when he was way past his prime, and not looking good at all. Remember when Magic came back? He fought with this teammate got suspended for the altercation with the ref, etc. I don't think statistics have ever been tops on Dream's list of concerns. I don't think it really matters to him if his career stats go down. I will point out again that playing like he did last night the guy still had 2 blocks. When he went to the bench the Rockets made their 4th quarter run too.
It is crazy to think Olajuwon will be remembered for what he is now rather than what he was then. Players are remembered for what they were in their prime. That is how history always tells the story.
