Thought this was interesting to share with yall... http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-29-72/Rafer-Alston-s-Youth.html There is a link to the article he is talking about here
Skip to my Garbage or something. Rafer rolled dice? Ok, something new? Just a good baller from the streets who succed in basketball world, good ball handler, passer, changed multiple teams, Milwuakee, Miami, Toronto, Houston but pretty good overall player. Likes to distrubite the ball and get his teammates involved. That's why he will be around in this league for a long time said once Steve Kerr. Is that we really know about Rafer, us Houston Rockets fans? Well Rafer has been Rafer and will never change, interesting story but pretty hard to say that Rafer has been such a guy since he seems really nice.
how can you be good at rolling a dice? Isnt that the same as being good at tossing a coin or drawing out of a hat?
Rafer is just a bona fide HUSTLA. dat dude is a rock solid OG from the hood. Rollin dice? Damn that is so balla it ain't even funny.
I know a lot of people have complained about Rafer, but its always good to give a little background to the people we watch game in and game out. Everyone has a story, not all of them great or happy, but maybe this will make people think before they post crap about him that has nothing to do with basketball. I thought the article was well written and even though its an old story, its probably something that a lot of Rockets fans knew nothing about (including me) Of course, I'm a sucker for a good human interest story.
Very sweet thoughts... Reality is the vast majority of fans care about winning above and beyond everything else. Rafer could've saved a village and it won't make a difference if he doesn't play well.
I met a dude claiming to be rafer alston's father last year while working downtown... He was a janitorial supervisor and he seems to be normal, he was holding down a job and same rafer purchased a home for his parents in sugar's land sienna plantation neighborhood....so if he is a dope-fiend he apparently does not do that anymore and he's holding down a job
Rafer indeed came a long way and is a very good basketball player. If he was the PG for let's say Charlotte or Washington that it might be OK but for an organization that boasted "It's Time" he is not enough.
His Dad stole his Michael Jordan card and that is supposed to be a tough life. The guy has had it pretty good as of late and it doesn't sound like he had it so bad with a bunch of groupies following him around. Even his mother, who knows him best, called him a spoiled brat who wanted celebrity treatment even with his own family. That's pretty sad if you asked me and it's that arrogance, which he still hasn't let go of, that screws the team late in games. Don't get me wrong, clearly Rafer runs the team better than anyone else we have and we have alot of bad options, but too many times he makes boneheaded decisions late in games because somehow he thinks it's on him. His biggest fault on my part is thinking he is all that and then some.
you have no idea how tough rafer had growing up in the projects. shame on you rock for judging his childhood with a biased opinion because you dont like his game.
No, his dad was a drug addict and sold something his young son probably treasured most in his life just to feed his addiction. How's that? Tough enough for you?
