Not to paraphrase the political opinings of the noted Chauncey Gardner, but this team still needs time to grow. As such, when faced with decisions where one answer benefits us this year, whereas another does so long-term, it's a slam-dunk for me...I know, I know, we're all tired of waiting till next year, but look at most of the greatest teams of yore..the Nasty Boys had there ups and downs..remember Kelly Tripuka? And the Jordan years were charecterized by inconsistency for the first few...

This is an exceptionally young team, with very young stars..I realize that early free-agency has raised the bar a little earlier, what with the fear of losing Stevie if/when he loses his patience with mediocrity, but you have to start with a solid foundation...

So, what am I trying to say here? Well, I just took some pretty heavy sleeping pills, so I hope I'm making sense here, but I'm saying, take the long view...If we want to play Griffen and T-Mo more, let's do it ONLY if we're doing it because we feel this is the time to move them into that phase, NOT because we feel that it might give us a few more wins now...

When considering trades, bringing on Glen Rice, etc...once we lost out on Webber, I've been thinking of this year as developmental..Add Mo Taylor go9ng down, and now these latest injuries, and I still stay this is a BUILDING year....sure, it sucks a bit for now, but in the meanwhile, we get to see some pretty incredible athletes doing their thing, getting better, and keeping one eye on the glorious future the fruits of these leaner years' labour will bring...And Starting off 5-1 shouldn't obscure our priorities...We CAN'T beat the Lakers, T-WOlves, or Kings this year, with all our injuries, our weak middle, and our inexperience...What we can do is keep growing into the kind of team that OTHER teams will look at and say to themselves..We can't beat the Rockets this year, but maybe if we keep making smart decisions, keep growing, one day...

Take all of this for what it's worth, given that I', a little out of iy right now...Peace brothers and sisters...

Wow...some people have actually thrown the towel already!

Too early to give up on the season.

Thrown in the towel? I guess, if that's what you want to call it...I don't mean we can't have a successfull year, an exciting year, I just don't see, given our present team, that we can have a championship year, and that's what i think it should all be about..So, based on my opinion, I think that our decisions this year should be based on what is best for our young stars and future stars, even if their development comes at the cost of a few wins this year...

Or, are you suggesting that we CAN beat the Lakers, Spurs, Timberwolves, etc, PLUS whoever proves the best team in the East this year, in succession? Or do you think that the calender predicates that it's too early? Do you ascribe to the theory that the Bulls should be saying " Hey, it's too early to write off another ring this year!" and base their decisions upon that? Part of being a fan is talent evaluation, both individual and collective, and wanting what's best for your team...What I think is best for this team is to recognize where we are REALISTICALLY, and base our moves/decisions upon that basis towards building what we have into a perrenial title contender...The nucleus is mostly there, we've just gotta grow it right, and maybe add another big young tree right there in the middle...

None of those teams you mentioned struggled to MAKE the playoffs. They struggled IN the playoffs. The Rockets need to make the playoffs, before they can be compared to other teams that have struggled early and turned into greatness.

They made the playoffs...eventually. But it took a while to get there, and it took a while to learn there too...I have said that it would be to our advantage to make the playoffs this year, and expidite the learning process, but NOT at the cost of properly developing the guys who we're going to need to get us over the hump...

Besides, ZRB, I don't like you or your dog since you omitted me from the Pro-Hakeem group...I have done nothing but ask for perspective on him, while railing against the petty, juvenile, and frankly obvious sour grapes we've been inundated with since Hakeem decided to (!!!) make a decision he felt was best for him, in response to the Rockets deciding that what was best for them was to low-ball him...(sniff)....

I never said this was our chamionship season, or that we're going to beat the Lakers, Spurs, or T-Wolves.

THe main goal was to make the Playoffs, from there you never know what's going to happen. It's too early for us to start think about having another lottery year or barely missing the playoffs. The talent is there, and the only concern is staying healthy.

There is no such thing as "too young to win now". Duncan led the Spurs to the title in his second year only. now again am not saying the Rockets should be considered championship contenders just yet, but they ARE playoff material.

If we're not gonna have faith in the Rockets , WHO WILL!?!?

JAG, We definately have the talent to win against any team in the NBA. You cannot say it is a lost season because we lost the last two games. Steve Francis is out, Mobley is hurting, Rice isn't playing to his potential and Rudy T is doing a lousey job. Yet we are the seventh seed in the West with easily the most difficult schedule of the top 10 teams in the west.

If Steve is out for an extended period of time we can call it a lost season. I guess it wasn't such a good idea to workout all offseason.

We do however need to make changes to our offense. Rudy T is struggleing with the new offense and the new rules.

I think we could see some trades coming up.
