I currently own a 2001 audi TT and have to say that the electrical system has given me a few headaches. So far these are the repairs that I've had to make: the instrument cluster, the electrical computer (the entire electrical system failed) and a sensor for the convertible top. Currently the bottons on the key that control the lock/unlock and trunk have stopped functioning. of course none of the repairs have been cheap. with that said anyone wanna buy a Audi TT? practically new electrical system :)

Audi and Volks both look awesome and are well equipped, but the endless list of problems you have with a VW will show up with Audi because they share drive trains, electric systems, frames, components, etc.

Because it's gonna look just like that when it's on jacks half the time you own it... and all of a sudden it's not gonna look so good. :)

Reliability first, looks second (or third)!

I don't know about you, but I don't mind spending a little bit of money on a car, but to keep shelling out $100 here, $500 there, and another $300 somewhere else over and over is annoying.

Yes, because as we all know, someone looking for a $40,000 car will, on the spur of the moment, decide "you know what? I'm gonna just go ahead and get that $100,000 car instead"...

I've always liked the way Audi's looked. Test drove an A4 once....good times, but went with Lexus instead...reliability. Given that I've put less than 35k miles on in 6 years, I guess I didn't need to be as concerned with reliability...oh well.

Lately, I've been really digging the new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

I just like the way that looks....but under 20 mpg....no thanks.

Oddly enough, one reason why I never considered Audi when looking at a TL was the interior of the car. I hated the dash/instrument controls. They were all just square pieces and looked like every other button. It's one reason I can't stand the interior of BMW's (for the most part), either. I love what Honda and Toyota do with their interiors on their Acura and Lexus lines.

You think i'm kidding, but i'm not they share the same platform, electrical system, engine (used to anyway 1.8 turbo) -- the TT just has a lower profile body on the frame.

Platform-sharing doesn't make them "the same car"...the difference is usually in the powertrain and all the on-board gadgets you're paying for to get that 'luxury' ride. Sometimes they do share, you're right, but that doesn't eliminate all the other differences, which I am sure is an extensive list of optional equipment that probably isn't even offered with the 'lesser' model.

All companies have platform-sharing, it isn't unique to VW/Audi or any other particular brand...

A top of the line Jetta and an Audi A4 are as similar as a Ford Taurus and a Mercury Sable. Sure you get more gadgets on the Audi, but all the powertrain issues/ electrical issues/ etc. that have plagued VW also haunt Audi because they are the same product.
