What is your Favorite Greek Food?

Call me crazy but I love a good falafel pita sandwich. I just ate pita and tabouli for lunch btw. I also love snacking on greek olives and feta on flat bread.

 

I don't know much about Greek food, but I love to get beef schwarma's at Phoenixia(sp?) Deli, and a Greek Omlette from Biba's, and you can never go wrong with a Gyro.

 

Felafel sandwich from Nico Nico's, with enough extra tzatziki sauce that I can use it with the fries instead of catsup. If I'm really hungry, I'll add a spanakopita.

 

spanakopita kicks ass. the frozen ones you can get at sam's are really awesome.

 

That's what I got last time I was there (no spanakopita). That was some good lafel.

 

Falafel then gyros.

At my college, we had a little Greek fast food restaurant (for lack of a better term) across the street. Any time I get a chance, I go back and eat a Gyro there. Unbelievably good, and great for the memories.

 

Those like like dates, or loukoumades, or... WTF is that, lol!?

My favorite is Pastichio.

And falafel is not Greek. Just because Niko Niko's has something doesn't make it Greek. Phoenicia is a Lebanese place, I believe.

 

Hey, how come people don't have tzatziki for dinner? Why is it only a snack, why can't it be a meal, you know? I don't understand stuff like that.

 

You can't beat a gyro from Niko Niko's (unless you are greek and know of a family-run better place )

 

puke, lamb and beef are only used here go to Athens and it's pork so good

 

Greece was part of the Ottoman Empire for forever. Falafel may not have originated in Greece, but from what I can tell it certanly qualifies as 'Greek food' in the same way that 'Tex-Mex' is an American food.

It's American Greek food.

If you go to Greece and ask for falafel or hummus, good freaking luck.

I'm Greek, so I consider reek food to be the standard traditional fare you get back there, as well as the corollary to it here.

Again, hummus, falafel, even the thin pita (we use the thick ones) gyros that many places use here are not Greek, they are "Middle Eastern."

Just because the Turks conquered and enslaved Greece for a few hundred years does not mean that every single thing of theirs is automatically Greek.

We adopted baklava because it's so damn tasty.

Also, it's Greek coffee, not Turkish coffee, if you are in Greece or in a Greek restaurant. I'm just saying... I don't want any CF posters to get beaten down for asking for a "Turkish coffee" from a Greek.
