    This discussion begins and ends with the soundtrack to "Conan the Barbarian" by Basil Polidorius. Absolutely stunning work.

    Ennio Morricone's film music is also among the best ever. "Fistful of Dollars", "TGTB&TU", "Once Upon a Time in the Old West", etc...

    I'll throw in John Barry's work, especially some of his Bond movies like On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice.

    Someone else mentioned Last of the Mohicans. Michael Mann movies in general have great music. The Insider and Manhunter are two other favorites of mine.
