I am a big music purchaser and I just recently got done buying 11 CDs off Amazon the other day. Amazon is probably one of the top 3 sites that I visit constantly every day with this place and espn.go.com the other two.

Things were going good with Amazon as I could always count on them to have what I was looking for, and the stuff I was looking for is things that you can't find in your local CD store or even at a Tower Records for that matter. Yet, about every CD, mainly techno/electronica, that I wanted they said that they had it in stock and it would ship in 24 hours or the next day.

Then one day shortly after the terrorist attacks, I noticed that some of their titles were no longer available in 24 hours. This included such classic CDs as the following:

    Play - Moby
    Mezzanine - Massive Attack
    Dummy - Portishead
    In-Sides - Orbital
Second Toughest in the Infants - Underworld

    just to name a few.

Some of these titles would say available 5 to 7 days, other times it would say 2-3 days and even sometimes 1-2 weeks! I emailed Amazon asking them about this and they gave me some line about how if several people want a CD then they are depleted for a while until they can get some more. That explanation sounded plausible but why hadn't this been an issue before? It's not like 100 other people became like me and decided to buy a lot of techno/electronica CDs.

Unfortunately, I have to keep my eye on certain titles all the time and see when they will become available that is reasonable, i.e. 24 hours or 2-3 days. I told one guy that I work with about this and he thought that Amazon was cutting its inventory because its profits had been low. However, this guy also tried to tell me that the Offspring had done a re-make of Boyz in the Hood and had placed it on their Americana CD! So, I really don't give what he said a serious thought.

I'm in a bad spot. I love buying CDs and listening to them (I have over 350 now), but I can't wait weeks to get things that I can't find elsewhere. What a dilemma.

Has anybody else noticed this with Amazon? Does anybody know why this is happening?

I have no idea why the lack of CD's at Amazon.com, but have you tried cdnow.com for any of your CD's? They have all the CD's you mentioned, and they all ship within 3 days.

I don't know how their prices compare to amazon.com's but one thing I liked about amazon.com is that you could always find a good coupon to use with a purchase there like a "$10 off $50 purchase", etc.

As the Doc said CDNow has a lot of CDs. Whenever I buy CDs I always go with CDNow or Amazon. There is always my personal favorite site, AudioGalaxy. :D

I have given CDNow serious consideration, but I never knew what their availability on titles were, i.e. how long it took them to get something in stock. I may have to try them before too long. It's just that I have become spoiled with Amazon.

Buy.com also has these CD's. They have a coupon for free shipping on all orders over $100.

Wow you're right. Both of yours relates to the kirkit situation though. He's probably mentioned in sigs the most. I wonder if anybody else has him in their sig.
