Nothing to say really. Just sitting here groovin' to Al. Good stuff and the perfect sound for midnight. Love and Happiness.
The breakdown in "Love and Happiness," where just the drums/bass/keys are rolling (at about 3:30) ... that's as funky as anything that's ever been put on tape. My favorite part of any Willie Mitchell/Rev Al album? The crash cymbal gets hit about once per song.
The new defenitive greatest hits that was released this week is 7.98 at target until I believe sunday. They added 6 songs.
“At the height of his popularity, Green’s former girlfriend, Mrs. Mary Woodson, broke into his Memphis home in October 1974 and poured boiling grits on the singer as he was bathing, inflicting second-degree burns on his back, stomach and arm…Green interpreted the violent incident as a sign from God that he should enter the ministry.”
Any Al Green collection MUST have "Call Me". Not one bad song on that album. Funny thing about Love and Happiness, is that Al Jackson Jr. is not the drummer. I always thought it was him. The most underrated of drummers and probably one of the best drummer/songwriters of all time....with all apologies to you Neil Peart fans......NOT!!!
Have to wonder: Did she break in and bring boiling grits, break in then boil grits, or was Al boiling grits while taking a bath?
Saw an old Soul Train episode with him on it a while back. That whole era and sound, just so pure and soulful. Much more tender and meaningful than today's music. <embed src='http://us.i1.yimg.com/cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/player/media/swf/FLVVideoSolo.swf' flashvars='id=773928&emailUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.yahoo.com%2Futil%2Fmail%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26vid%3D718ed344d902effc441328830c046d9d.773928&imUrl=http%253A%252F%252Fvideo.yahoo.com%252Fvideo%252Fplay%253F%2526ei%253DUTF-8%2526vid%253D718ed344d902effc441328830c046d9d.773928&imTitle=Al%2BGreen%2B-%2B%2522Tired%2Bof%2BBeing%2BAlone%2522%2B-%2B1970s&searchUrl=http://video.yahoo.com/video/search?p=&profileUrl=http://video.yahoo.com/video/profile?yid=&creatorValue=aGVucnlzYW5jaGV6MTk1NA%3D%3D&vid=718ed344d902effc441328830c046d9d.773928' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' width='425' height='350'></embed> This was definitley before his involvement in the ministries
I bought it at Wal Mart over the weekend for $9. Bought it the same time I bought a pair of noise-cancelling headphones to deafen the noise pollution at work.
