    Hey guys,

I write songs/lyrics etc... and I need your help w/ a new one.

My adopted Mom just passed away in April, losing her battle w/ brain cancer. Although, she was my adopted Mom (Dad remarried when I was 4), I consider her my Mother in every sense of the word. She was the one who raised me and instilled values, etc for the last 22 years. Anyway, I've been wanting to write something about our special relationship and the fact that our bond was incredibly strong even though we did not share the same blood.

I was watching VH1 and they mentioned that Marvin Gaye was killed by his father shooting him in the chest. I got a bit inspired and started to write some lyrics.. I want to show examples of blood relatives either killing or hurting each other. The chorus of the song will talk about how how strong our love was, despite us not being blood related.

So far, the only examples I can think of are Marvin Gaye and the biblical story of Cain & Abel..

If anyone can think of examples of family members killing/hurting each other, please let me know. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this idea makes any sense, but it is a way for me to express some of the crazy emotions that I've been going through for the last 3-4 months.

    Thanks...

I'd change the line of "what I got you got to get it put it in you" to "what I'd like is I'd like to hug and kiss you".

Huh? I don't understand what that has to do with the question...

Just to be clear.. I'm not looking for lyrics or ways to change existing songs. I'm just trying to find any literary, historical, or modern examples of family members that have either killed or injured their own blood.

I thought of a couple more examples: Oedipus killed his Father to be with his Mother.. Hamlet...

    think

    MENENDEZ

and this song idea seems a bit cryptic for an ode to you mother. maybe ficticous examples of arguments, or dissagtreements would be better than killing of family members. or lagger issues when sides didnt get along. cold war, and stuff like that.

however if you must, you may want to add hitler and the jews(he was apparently half jewish)

that mom who drowned her kids in the car

that young couple that killed their baby and put it in a dumpster

Phil heartmans evil b**** of a wife (i just say that because i loved phil heartman as a comedian)

there are many more, but this is not the kind of subject worth dwelling on

    PEACE

There are hundreds of thousands. Pick up the paper. Every abuse case of a child. Every domestic abuse case between husband and wife. Shakespeare was rife with them and so was Greek tragedy as you pointed out.

If you are looking for them down through history, you won't have any problems finding them. They are all over the place.

If you want FAMOUS stories (or infamous), it might be a little different. "Luka" by Suzanne Vega is a good song about child abuse. "Janie's Got a Gun" by Aerosmith was a thinly veiled story of a father molesting his daughter and the daughter killing him. "Mommie Dearest" was the biopic about Joan Crawford's abuse of her daughter (adapted from the novel). You've already mentioned the literary angle.

There is the story of the Menendez brothers who killed their parents. There was that kid from Kentucy who killed his parents then went to school and shot some kids there. Patricia Yates is the woman in Houston who recently drowned her 3 young children.

    Kind of a morbid concept!

Thanks guys. I guess I can totally see how "morbid" this must seem. Not really sure how to explain myself and I'm starting to think that maybe this isn't such a good idea or way to express this stuff. My intentions were good for this idea, but I'm not wanting it to be that morbid and depressing...

This might be one of the many trashed unused ideas. thanks for the input.

How about your own Clear Lake, Texan who murdered five of her own children.

In Beowulf, the Character "Unferth" killed his brother.

I need to go look it up to remember much more.

i just read this all again, and something in jeffs post reminded me of an 8 (i think he was 8, he may have been 5) year old kid in England who is going on trial for killing his little brother a toddler.

any way that is not my only reason for posting again.

all these examples, and stories are the worst(best) examples of societys rot and filth. you are a lucky guy to have been adopted into a family that means so much to you. it is a shame that all too often we get so mad at the people that we love, and that love us most. think of all the times you have yelled at your parents, and they have yelled at you. think of the fights with siblings, and the pain it all has caused. i was lucky to be born into a loving family and i am at 26 my brothers best friend, and visit my parents fairly often. I know im lucky as hell. but I also want to make whomever reads this to think how lucky they are too. sure your mom may drink too much(as mine does) but she didnt raise a killer, or thought about drowning my bro and I (hope not anyway :) ). both my parents are flawwed people and they know it. i still apreciate them very much and love them. this is why i let them know they are good parents.

im not gonna tell ya how to live your life, but its a good idea to let your parents know they did a good job every once in a while

    Damn VOR,

you really hit it on the head there. I guess that's pretty much the whole point of me writing this. I was very lucky to be born to my Father and I think the fact that he remarried (more importantly - who he remarried) was the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I know that everyone thinks their Mom is the best... but I feel incredibly lucky to have met up with mine, even though that's not how it started. I don't know that words could really describe the love I feel for this woman.. It was something that grew over the course of 22 years. My biological mother was very abusive and when this Mom came into my life, she saw that I really needed that motherly love and because of that need, she almost loved me more than had I been from her womb. What's really ironic is that she died of Cancer and in the last year of her life, I developed a really rare type of skin cancer as well. No one on my Dad's side of the family has a history of Cancer, but it's very prevalent on my Mother's side of the family. Of course, since I don't have any blood relation to my Mother, it's very strange that I would develop a type of Cancer as well.

Thanks for chiming in Voice of Reason. My whole purpose of this post was not to voice something morbid or gross, but more to see the irony in the fact that thousands of families fall apart over crazy things, whether it be killing or just not getting along, yet here is a case where the love was so strong, despite the fact that we weren't blood relatives. I guess I've always heard that blood is the thickest bond, but I don't think that holds true in this case.

Anyway, I'm glad that I was able to explain a little bit about this situation. I couldn't quite put into words what I was trying to say yesterday. Thanks again, Voice of Reason.

    Peace,

    gus
