For some reason, when I try to open iTunes on my computer, I get that windows message saying "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." before it opens.

I've tried rebooting several times and I still get that message. Normally, I would just uninstall and reinstall it, but I'm afraid if I do that, I'm going to lose all my music.

Anyone else ever have this problem and if so, what did you do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem before...just go to the Apple website & download the most recent version. It will replace the version you have & you will not lose any music.

Before you RE-INSTALL, find a file within your username's folder that is named "LIBRARY.XML". This contains the listings of all your songs. Unless you specifically ask, iTunes will not delete ANY music. In case your library is not there, all you have to tell your new installation of iTunes is where the library file is. You should NOT have to do this, as any installation searches for previous existance of libraries and files from earlier versions.

OK, I updated it to the newer version. No problem. Then I opened it to make sure that was the problem. It opened with no problem.

Then I rebooted and it prompted me to install the iPod software. So I put my disk in and it said it couldn't find any software. Whatever, so then I removed the Quicktime it installed with it because I use the quicktime alternative.

Then, when I tried to open iTunes again, I get the same message.
