http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4256073.html By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Extensions likely Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said he expected that the Rockets would extend the rookie contracts of guards Luther Head and Kirk Snyder through 2007-08. The Rockets have until the end of the month to extend Head's contract to a third season and Snyder's for a fourth season. "I can't see why they wouldn't get extended," Van Gundy said. "I don't think it should be a concern. Both, seemingly, it should happen, unless something unforeseen occurs." Head and Snyder have said they would like to have an additional season added to their contracts, but have not concerned themselves with their contract status this month. "The only thing that can become a problem is if individual situations cannot be sacrificed for the good of the team," Van Gundy said. "It's something you have to be aware of. It's not something I worry about at all with Luther because I know him. I don't know Kirk or Bonzi ( Wells) as well. They have to keep a lazer-like focus."
They can be traded, but Head will not be. His role this year is to knock down the open threes created by Yao and TMac. Head will be money for us this year. Mark it, Dude!
Poor Les, you think owning his own basketball team and all that he wouldn't have to pay so much for Head....
Do you think this BBS will ever get to a point where we have competely exhausted every potential fellatio joke pertaining to Luther? I hope not.
I think Head and Snyder are good two guards for the Rockets' future. They each make up for what the other lacks...
Head comes before Snyder alphabetically. Luther also has more seniority on the team. So this headline would definitely have been written, "Rockets plan to extend Head, Snyder." My bet is that a headline writer wrote that to see if he could get it into print, and an editor caught it and switched the order. Family newspaper and all that.
i don't think JVG is comfortable with our backup PG's. niether, he says, are ready to play right away. VG is experimenting in practice with tmac as the backup pg, but the coach says he needs shooters next to him. luther will be the backup 1/2 and snyder the backup 2/3. judging by his comment today about only wanting shooters at the 4 i tihnk it's safe to say novak will be there. what i'm interested in is hayes, howard, deke for the backup 5.
(because) not cus [no such word] You really mean just like he should stop spouting all the negatives about his players in public, for the same reason!!:If he keeps talking poorly about his players then nobody will believe they are worth going to see.
This is not surprising at all. The Rockets are already above the cap no matter what, and these rookie contracts are some of the best assets around. Whether or not Head and Snyder are here for the long run, extending them for great value is smart because they can be kept for cheap or traded really easily. It's just smart business. I'm just wondering what Bob Sura is going to do, and when.
