Updated Draft Order, List, Stats, Deadlines

Ok, now Cat has stated what will happen. So now you'll have to decide what to do based on that info.

But as you said we never knew about the common draft when we played the first season. Neither did weknow that there was going to be a 2nd season, and when Cat suggested that in the roll call for next season there were plenty of ideas on how to do it. I was against the idea of you only getting to protect 2-3 players and give the rest up for the draft. Many players wanted the draft, some said lets only protect 2 players, others 3. Cat said he didnt want a draft to take forever so he said give up 2 players for a 2 round draft. I actually wanted us to start over on a fresh since we didnt know the rules when we started but I thought this was the best idea that had surfaced at that point. Us changing the rules without prior notice again is something I'm really against. I'm not directly against the idea of removing the common draft. I just dont want me to be penalized for opting for plenty of draftpicks in the Iverson trade.

Another thing I'm afraid for is if you remove it completly it will also take away a legitimate tradebait, and in the process removing a lot of trades. I think a league without any drafts at all (and as fast as we move along rookies do not come along every season) will be less active. And it is the activity that makes it fun.

We accually will have a rookie draft from now on. Free agency is a little bogus because if we had one, how many players from the common draft do you think a team could sign? Not to mention, the difficulty of trading a player, etc.... Plus in my suggestion I kept the common draft for three more seasons.

I feel your pain. You are right. That is the reason I bought up this topic because I want the direction of the league to be clear. Man, I like you, and I dont want to get into a war of words. Let's us agree to disagree if it comes to that.

If someone other than GettinBranded joins, I will give them an opportunity to grab three players from that list instead of two. I know it isn't quite as good as Ilgauskas, but it will level out because if it doesn't work they will have a higher rookie and/or common draft pick.

I'm not complaining though, all I really wanted was clear rules,and nowwe got them. Now go sim some new games.

BTW when you sim the next games take a good look in the previous standings thread because I have very specfic wants/needs for stats as I want to calculate some players stats at different positions. All this to decide what/if I'm gonna trade.

But we will only have the rookie draft after this season and then who knows, it could be five sim seasons before we get to another one. There is no other way to get a bad team to really compete w/o the common draft, other wise, what's the point? I have no tradeable commodities to get better, no way to improve my talent level except for the common draft. I would prefer to keep the common draft as is for at least one season, preferably two.

If we are going to explore the option of a 2nd round fromthis roookie class I suggest we just decide it now already and put is as a 1 round draft for season 4 (or 5-6 if the level of the 2nd round players is not possible to set as we move so fast)

If the quality of these players is not the best we always have the opportunity that you just make em 20% better or so all over the line as we will be atleast simming 2004 (season 4) when the 2001-02 season start. So we can have that increase as development.

Oh, I get it. Our league is simmed more than once in an NBA calender year. That does make it harder. I guess the only other solution would be an expansion draft, where teams must unprotect players for the expansion teams, which also has problems. Man, this league stuff is hard to get right.

No disrespect CAT, but the worst decision we made in the league was to draft players from other teams. But I understand it was more fun to do so at the time. Now that we got more teams in the league it becomes increasingly harder to make the teams equal for the new GMs. I would think that if our league gets stronger, and all teams have a GM we could start over, and have a massive neverending draft. Then I think we could really get rid of the common draft.

Cat, do you have to create the rookies?

Also, if we ever get to 29 teams, what would the protection list for the expansion draft be?

I suggest four. Leaving one starter and your whole bench.


As for the vet. drafts, I pretty much side with The Cat. In the NBA, the playing field is much more even, team's three best players weren't taken.

But, I in a way agree with KBM, because this is a franchise league, the cycle will work just like the NBA's. The good teams eventually get worse, and the bad teams eventually get better.

To consistently win, you have to be good at fitting pieces together.

I suggest picking from your top 7, which The Cat/the league as a group will choose.

What's the big ruckuss over the draft. Its no big deal. Its not like we are starting over every season. Your giving up 2 players, to balance the field gradually each season.
It would be different if there was a rookie draft each sim season, but there is not. (in 2k1 there is) I dont think starting over is a good idea in any case. Your solution to the problem of wasting hard work is to waste even more work on the teams??? Lets just keep things the way they are for awhile. If it really hinders GM's ability to construct championship teams, then do something. We've had one season so far, its way to early to tell.
