Are there any television experts on the BBS? My mothers television has been acting funny and now it has went out. She can no longer watch cable on it but can still watch her DVDs. She had Cox Comm. come out and check her lines and they said everything is fine and that the TV was the problem. So why can she no longer watch cable but DVDs are OK?
Well then smartass, you have only several things that could be wrong. The input on the TV, the cable, or the cable box. If the cable people say it isn't the cable, which I would take with a grain of salt, I'm assuming it's the input on the tv. Here are some things you can do to figure to make sure: - Try the cable box on a known good TV - Try the cable box on a known good input on the bad TV (perhaps the DVD input) - Try a different cable You don't give us a whole lot of info such as what kind of inputs and the functionality of each? What kind of cable box (if any)? What kind of TV? etc.
Hey man, calm down. I wasn't getting smart just simply saying that I've never seen a DVD player with a cable hook-up, geez. It's a Sony 35 inch which is only a few years old. She has digital cable so cable goes into a box then a cable goes from the box into the TV. The only other thing she has hooked to the TV is a DVD player which hooks in to basic A/V hook-ups.
Does the TV have an additional RCA input? Most cable boxes these days have RCA outputs so just hook it up that way instead.
I just messaged my mom and told her to try that. I'll let you know if it works. Thanks for your help.
at this point I realize you have found a workaround....but since I have had a TV with these exact symptoms, I can tell you with a reasonable measure of certainty that it is the coax cable connection board...where the tongs from the actual connection to the logic board have come loose or broken it actually isnt that much to fix at any good TV repair shop.
