Since it is finally beginning to warm up that means bugs are going to get active again, specifically the ones like fleas, ticks, and mosquitos. Now, I need to get my dog some flea and tick applications, the ones you put on their necks every month or so. I've seen Frontline, Advantage, K-9 Advantix, and others that range from $30-$50 for three month supplies. I have also seen the ones offered by Hartz and a three month supply of them only cost around $10. My question is, are the cheaper ones just as good as the expensive ones? I don't mind spending the extra money as long as I am truly getting something in return for my money.

from my experience. those hartz products don't work worth a *&it. You won't get rid of the fleas. You get what you pay for.

you need a prescription to get the others

from my experience advantix and frontline are the best.

    Frontline Plus is excellent!

But our dog also takes a monthly heart worm pill that has flea and tick protection. So that might help the frontline a bit. In two years I've never seen one flea or tick. And we have a house in the country.

Are you sure you need a script for Frontline and Advantage? I see them at Petco all the time.

I think I heard something bad about the Hartz stuff. It was making the cats and dogs sick. It was on the news awhile back so I don't remember all that much about it.

Check ebay, I use to get a 6 month supply of Advantage from some flea club. I think I saved about $30.

I don't remember hearing anything about that but I remember hearing about some dog food that was making animals sick and killing some too.

i dont think i use frontline plus, but i use frontline and do the monthly heartworm pills too. my vet said frontline is better for water dogs and ive got a lab - i only put it on about 1 time every 2 months and he never has problems.
