They'll make it better. Sorry, but Batman simply does not hold up well over time. There's definite room for improvement regarding the Joker. And as for the villain in Spidey's eye thing... I wouldn't be suprised if it was venom or goblin cause the Spidey 2 teaser had Doc Oc in Spidey's eye. Makes for good continuity.
I don't think the multiple villians will be a problem, but the fact that they are throwing Gwen Stacy into this one might be. If you don't know, Gwen Stacy was Spidey's first love interest before Mary Jane came around. She dies when the Green Goblin tosses her off that bridge from the first movie and Spidey tries to save her with a web line but the sudden stop causes her neck to snap and she dies. They are also putting Gwen's father, who is a cop, in the movie and he'll be played by James Cromwell. That's more story to throw into the movie that can clutter things up. He dies before his daughter when Doc Ock knocks over a brick chimmeney or something while fighting Spiderman and the bricks are about to fall on a kid and he saves the kid but the bricks fall on him instead. So Gwen blames Spidey and hates him. I mean, that could take up a huge part of one movie alone. I trust Raimi, but it does look like things are getting cluttered. Don't forget that in all likelyhood, Harry will become Green Goblin 2 or Hobgoblin. There is a rumor though that Harry will become a Goblin to help Peter instead of taking revenge.
I didn't say she was, I was talking about the Bridge at the end of the movie. That's where her death happens in the comics.
One of my only problems with the first Spiderman movie was that they skipped Gwen Stacy. All that stuff with her, including her death, pre-dates MJ in the comics. In the comics PP lost his first love, her father (with whom he'd been close) and his Uncle Ben because he was Spiderman. It's a huge part of the character's pathos. And it was only after all those losses that he hooked up with MJ, which was the main reason he was so hesitant to get close to her romantically. In the movies that struggle feels a little arbitrary. I can't imagine that bringing Gwen in late in the game will have the same effect. It feels awkward to me, but the first two movies were great so I'll wait and see. As for the Joker stuff, the new one's going to be so much better. I love Jack Nicholson and considering what he was given to work with in the first film he was good, but it was a superficial read on the character. And the dynamic between him and Batman was virtually non-existent -- as was the character of Batman himself in the Burton films (and, worse, the Schumacher ones). The two frontrunners for the Joker this time around are Paul Bettany and Lachy Hulme. Either would be awesome. Liev Schrieber's supposed to be up for Two-Face/Harvey Dent, which would be hella cool too. And multiple villains had nothing to do with killing the Batman franchise back then -- neither director had any interest at all in the extraordinarily complex characters of Batman and Bruce Wayne. That was the problem.
Batman, Not to derail or anything, but I shared a plane with Jerry Brown yesterday and immediately thought of you. It was cool to see him on SWA for some reason. Carry on.
Just said hi. I figured I'd let his constiuents do all the talking. We ended up having to wait for another plane with connectors, so he ended up talking at relative length with a few people, including one guy that was having some sort of problem with the city and Brown took down his name and number to get back with him once he could do some investigating. Seems like a really cool guy.
Yep. The coolest. No surprise either that he was flying SW. When he was governor he refused to live in the governor's mansion, calling it a waste of taxpayer money. He rented an apartment across the street, on his own dime, instead. He also drove his own car wherever he went. He should have been president.
But Venom (at least the early stories) was never about being part-alien. It was about a broken man who blamed Spider-Man for his downfall (which I might add is the main motivation for every single Spider-foe) and just how dangerous it would be if anyone ever found out the secret identity. If anything, the human element was magnified because you had a monster that Peter actually feared, and yet at the same time felt responsible for creating. The original Venom stories hold their own against the Silver Age villains' origins. It wasn't until Marvel started forcing him down everyone's throat like Wolverine and trying to push him as a twisted vigilante when things started to get silly. I'll even go as far as saying the original concept for Carnage wasn't bad because it played upon Peter's guilt and humanity even more. There is a moment where Peter has an opportunity to kill Carnage, a mass-murderer of hundreds who he acknowledges will probably just get out and kill again, but refuses to because of his ideals. Foolish maybe, but you can't deny that it's more profound than busting yet another Electro robbery attempt or Doc Ock hostage situation.
Spoilers regarding possible plot, below: http://www.darkhorizons.com/2007/spiderman3.php Plot: Third film in the highly successful "Spider-Man" series sees several new villains and a new woman enter Peter Parker's life. With his secret now revealed to both Mary Jane and Harry, Peter must face the consequences of his actions and his new life together with Mary Jane as they finally form a relationship. Yet their newfound open display of love has yielded some unfortunate results, not the least of which is Peter's upset boss determined to make his life hell for causing his son emotional distress. Not helping is a young investigative reporter named Eddie Brock who Jameson has hired to find out why Mary Jane dumped his son for Peter - what's Parker's secrets? At the same time an escaped prisoner hiding out on a remote beach is caught in a dreadful accident and finds himself turned into a shape-shifting sand creature. Peter's investigations into the past of this 'Sandman' brings him in contact with two very different things that will inevitably alter his life. The first a young woman named Gwen Stacy, daughter of the city's new police chief who is developing a soft spot for Peter. The other, a black substance from an accident scene which 'merges' with Peter's costume and gives him new found abilities. Things come to a head however when Harry Osborn, determined to take revenge against Peter for his father's death and now equipped with what he needs to pull it off, teams with The Sandman in a new variation of his father's Green Goblin guise and causes mayhem. In the ensuing chaos lives are lost, including people very close to Peter, whilst the black substance covering his suit separates from him and merges with a distraught Brock to form something else entirely - a creature unlike anything he's ever faced. A 'Venom' that he may not be able to stop. **Note** Sony has NOT released an official synopsis as yet, this one I penned and is an estimation based on a large amount of confirmed script story details that were leaked online in February 2006**.
Wow, Spidey's got his work cut out for him this time. If this is the last one, it's going to be huge.
that's what i thought when i heard all of this originally. i'd go without the Venom stuff. i think it might take the movie to a place that it shouldn't based on what Raimi has tried to do this whole time.
