Maybe this should go into the Debate thread, I don't know. If it should, please move it. Anyways..... Has anyone seen/heard of the new show that's premiering on Wednesday on FX? It's called "Black. White." The basic concept is that they take a white family and make them black, and take a black family and make them white. The two families live together for a month, as the opposite race. They do everyday things, as well as visit things like country clubs, etc. The show looks very interesting, and it looks like it will test the limits of races, which is something that I find very cool/interesting. There was a preview of the show on Oprah (Yes, I watched an episode of Oprah), with the two families from the first show. Oprah interviewed them and showed some clips, etc. It was very interesting. They got into multiple fights over things like language usage and the way they acted. It seemed to me like both families came out of it sort of hating each other, which was an interesting concept on its own.... Overall, I think I'll watch. I think it'd be an awesome experience to be on the show also....
When I was a young teenager my mother invited in a black family for a few months after they had been evicted from their home, both parents had fell on bad luck and been laid off within a two month span. They had 4 kids (3 boys, 1 girl) and ended up staying with us (my mother, older brother and I) for about three months, and needless to say it was an interesting 3 months. I can tell you the culture shock and an eye opening experience... As cool as this show sounds I don't think you should ever take too much out of it. For one, these people will be put in situations intentionally that will result in major drama. To me, it would be much more interesting to move a black and white family in with one another without a "switch" and with the same financial means they had before (ie no nice set house) and watch what happens then to put them in situations that they'd never be in while in the "real world."
It might be entertaining, I really liked that 30 days show that FX made. I'm looking forward to seeing an episode of this, if only it wasn't competing with LOST.
It's great except for the fact that NOBODY looks human after their transformation. The fathers are the closest to looking passable, and even they look like aliens. The black son turned white looks like that freak kid from Nip/Tuck or a member of Michael Jackson's plastic surgery brigade.
I agree with this point. You know they put them into situations that is going to make drama. If not they wouldn't have ratings. I would also like to see something to the effect of Real world, or something that is just not as scripted in some ways. But i guess that wouldn't make for good TV either.
Rose is getting alot out of this show. She made a statement that was stunningly insightful. She said: Slavery is not history for them . .it is their Lives. Which I what I think is the great divide. It is ingrained into the mind. It is not unlike the Holocaust with Jewish people it does not define them but it is definately ingrain into them. [ Call it culture, call it psyche, it is a part of you] Carmen is trying but she is so woefully ignorant. She seems to have been conditioned by life to have blinders on. I think this is an eye opening experience for her. Bruno and Brian are missing the point. Both are looking to prove or disprove something. As I look upon them I see that the conditioning of a life time will not be take away in 30 days or 6 months or who long they did this. You cannot see what you are not looking for. Bruno's lil MidLife Crisis Rap . . .was just plain stupid. I didn't think he really made that. He obviously has too much free time. Rocket River
it is all fake. http://www.houstontexans.com/fan_zone/messageboards/showthread.php?t=19475&page=3&highlight=black.white
Been posted before... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=109984&highlight=black+white That said, if the families are fake, it's pretty disappointing. No wonder they're so stupid.
Since the commercials always annoyed the crap out of me, I never got around to it. If it really is scripted, it defeats the purpose.
Actually, this one was posted first. It's just that for some reason, it didn't take on as many posts. I'm actually surprised this one was the one to get bumped.
I was flipping through the channels and saw that was on, and it looked interesting. I never watch Oprah. With that said, she used to have SOME cool shows...maybe like once a week.
