I didn't start listening to rap until the early 90's, so I'll give a few from that period to date:

At least 3 Tupac songs should be required (California Love, Dear Mama, Hail Mary, How Do U Want It, I Ain't Mad At Cha, Brenda's Got A Baby, Toss It Up, etc.)

Notorious B.I.G. - Big Poppa / One More Chance / Hypnotize / Sky's The Limit

    Luniz - I Got 5 On It

Do Or Die (Ft. Twista) - Po' Pimp

    Bone - Tha Crossroads

Master P - Make Em Say...

    Puff Daddy/P Diddy/Puffy/Weirdo/Catchysongmaker - Missing You

Eminem - Stan / Without Me / The Real Slim Shady / My Name Is

    Outkast - Rosa Parks / Ms. Jackson / B.O.B. / Hey Ya

Jay Z - Big Pimpin' (ft. UGK) / Izzo (H.O.V.A.) / Hard Knock Life

I guess I'll stop there. I'd just like to mention, though, that you were looking for some big hits and that's all I've listed. These same artists have a bunch of other, better songs available for download at your favorite online piracy site.

Great, great idea. Now, unlike some of the posters above, my list is gonna consist of songs that have (what I think to be) are the tightest beats - not songs that are considered to have great lyrics. I didn't really start listening to rap heavily until around '00/'01, so I like the newer kind of mainstream rap that most posters on here don't seem to like. I love the club bangers, the songs that get you goin'.

    Some of the Best All-Time

    2Pac - California Love
    2Pac - Still Ballin'
50 Cent - In Da Club
    50 Cent - Just a Little Bit
50 Cent - Position of Power
    50 Cent - Patiently Waiting
    Big Tymers - Still Fly
Busta Rhymes - Break Ya Neck
Bravehearts - Quick To Back Down
    Chris Brown - Run It!
    Ciara - Goodies
Clipse - When the Last Time
    David Banner - Play
DMX - Party Up (In Here)
Dr. Dre - Forgot About Dre
    Dr. Dre - Still D.R.E.
Dr. Dre - The Next Episode
Eazy E - Gimme Dat Nut
    Eminem - My Name Is
Eminem - The Real Slim Shady
The Game - How We Do
The Game - Put You On the Game
Geto Boys - Yes, Yes Ya'll
House of Pain - Jump Around
Ice Cube - You Can Do It
    J-Kwon - Tipsy
Jay-Z - Dirt Off Your Shoulders
    Jay-Z - Big Pimpin'
Juelz Santana - There It Go (The Whistle Song)
    Juvenile - In My Life
    Kanye West - Gold Digger
Lil' Flip - Game Over (Flip)
    Lil' Scrappy - No Problem
    Lil' Wayne - Go DJ
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - What You Gon' Do
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - Real N**** Roll Call
Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - In Da Club
    Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz - I Don't Give a F***
    LL Cool J - Headsprung
    Lloyd Banks - Work Magic
    Ludacris - Move B****
    Ludacris - Blueberry Yum Yum
    Mike Jones - Back Then
    Mike Jones - Still Tippin'
Mobb Deep - Have a Party
    Nelly - Air Force Ones
    Nelly - Na-Nana-Na
    Nelly - Grillz

    Notorious B.I.G. - Big Poppa

    T.I. - U Don't Know Me
Three 6 Mafia - Stay Fly
Three 6 Mafia - P**** Got Ya Hooked

Young Jeezy - And Then What
    Young Jeezy - Soul Survivor
    Youngbloodz - Damn!

Uhhhh.... instead of a hits CD, I just went ahead and made a 4 disc compilation (or however many CD's all of that would take). I could have truncated a bit more, but I also already cut a lot of stuff out. If you like the new school of rap, you should have every one of these songs.

Lil Flip is not the best of all time.

Did you put Lil Flip in there for affirmative action reasons?
