I am about to start a new job with a new company but the company does not have a benefits (health/dental/life insurance policies) package in place yet and probably won't for some time. My question, for those of you that have done this, where can I get this stuff for the time being anyway? What are the price ranges like? What will I have to go through (physicals, tests, etc.)? Any other info provided on the subject will be greatly appreciated.
how old are you? do you smoke? have any existing conditions? let's say you're in tip top shape...unfortunately, you're still probably not gonna find anything for less than $150/month.
I sell insurance in NC. Where are you, Arkansas? Two things you might wish to consider: 1. An HSA eligible health plan gives you a high deductible health plan without bells and whistles. The cost will be low and you can open a federally approved HSA account into which you can deposit tax-deductible money. If you have healthcare expenses, you can withdraw money tax-free from your HSA account to pay out of pocket expenses. If you are a single male who never consumes healthcare, an HSA plan would be very suitable. Monies in the HSA could be used over your lifetime to pay out of pocket medical expenses in a tax favored way. Once you drop the plan, though, you can no longer contribute money to the account. 2. If your company is going to get you some kind of group plan in the near future, look into Short Term Medical. It is less expensive. YOu can get it for up to a year on a month by month basis. You get great discount if you prepay your period. Here's one I've used in NC-- www.johnaldenstm.com Again, I'm in NC and this stuff varies from state to state.
